Responsibilities include all aspects of Laboratory Operations and Quality Management Systems including product quality, plant sanitation, HACCP, SQF and Preventative Controls compliance. All activities should follow Safe Quality Foods (SQF), HACCP and Allergen food safety and quality policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) and Safety policies and procedures as provided by company management.


Duties and Responsibilities:

        Oversee the activities of Lab Technicians and the Document coordinator.

        Assist in the development of HACCP, SOP, GMP, Allergen, Recall and other preventative control programs.

        Responsible for scheduling of department labor and projects, vacations and assignments.

        Record keeping/Reporting Maintain accurate and legible records. Complete customer regulatory and internal reports on a timely basis. Report and create corrective actions for deficiencies and missing data.

        Assistance with loss control programs in the plant and laboratory settings, Internal plant inspections and other compliance based inspections.

        Responsible for the oversight of PEM and Master sanitation programs.

        Assist in the development and enforcement of plant SOP and SSOP's including working directly with our Sanitation provider to resolve specific sanitation issues in the plant.

        Responsible for the maintenance of the HARPC food safety system including Management of Change documents.

        Assist in the development of and operation of weekly HACCP/ SQF team meeting.

        Responsible for leading the Bio-Security Team in their Quarterly review sessions.

        Communicate and record information forwarded to or collected by quality assurance and report to the appropriate plant personnel in a professional and timely manner.

        Order assigned Lab Supplies and manage the inventory of all quality assurance related supplies and materials.

        Maintain the accuracy of Lab SOP's and insure compliance for annual review, BMS updates and employee training.

        Conduct training for plant personnel on Quality and Compliance Systems as required.

        Calibration Ensure the accuracy of all quality assurance measurements and procedures by completing accurate and timely checks and calibrations of all equipment and materials as required by internal Quality Assurance programs.

        Perform all other duties assigned by management, and this may involve temporary relocation to other departments.

        All personnel have the authority and responsibility for shutting down production lines and reporting to management when food safety or quality is suspected or known to be compromised.
Management has the responsibility to assure that all food safety issues related to equipment, processes and methods have been adequately addressed to assure safe food is being produced before starting or continuing production.

        Adhere to all DFA Food Safety and Quality policies and procedures, reporting any non-conformities to Quality Assurance Management.

        Adhere to all DFA Safety policies and procedures, reporting any non-conformities to the Plant Manager or the Safety Manager.

        B.S. or B.A. degree in Food Science or related field with a minimum of 8 credit hours each in Microbiology and Chemistry.

        5 years' experience in a Quality Assurance related experience.

        1+ year of supervisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing lab enviornment.  3+ years of supervisory experience, preferred.

        SQF process experience

        Leadership Skills

        Experience with computer programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical process control.

        Must be able to read, write and speak English

        Excellent team building skills

        Excellent written and oral communication skills

        Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task

        Ability to interact in a positive way with all personnel within Dairy Farmers of America and with our customers.
