The Sensory Research Scientist, New
Business Development, will work independently and as part of a team to
design, collect, analyze, interpret, and report sensory and consumer data
that provide actionable guidance to cross-functional teams.
The scientist will use his/her knowledge of consumer and analytical sensory
methods to support new product development, continuous improvement, and
advanced food research initiatives, as well as participate in the
development and implementation of sensory and consumer capabilities.
The individual will interact extensively with Product Development, Food
Science, Marketing, Quality and Regulatory Compliance, Operations
Engineering, Marketing Research, and Manufacturing Operations personnel.
This role’s primary focus is on consumer testing, but the scientist will
also apply analytical sensory methods as needed to complement the testing
required to meet project objectives.
Summary of major duties: -Participating in recurring project meetings and
working with cross-functional team members to define project objectives,
identify appropriate type of sensory support needed, and designing test
protocols (includes consumer, discrimination, and descriptive
testing).-Execution, analysis, and interpretation of sensory/consumer
tests, including working with external vendors; communication of results
both verbally and in report/presentation format-Development and
implementation of new sensory/consumer testing capabilities-Recurring
Sensory team meetings to gain and maintain alignment on methods and best
practices; administrative meetings-Professional and organizational training
Education and Experience Requirements: – B.S. or M.S. degree in Food
Science, Psychology, or Statistics with emphasis in Sensory Science Sr.
Research Scientist– B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in Food Science, Psychology
or Statistics with emphasis in Sensory Science Experience: -Research
Scientist: 2 - 5 years applicable work experience with sensory and consumer
testing-Sr. Research Scientist: 5-10 years applicable work experience with
sensory and consumer testing
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform
major duties/responsibilities: * Demonstrated knowledge and application of
quantitative and qualitative consumer methods to drive new product
development efforts (CLTs, HUTs, focus groups, ethnography). * Demonstrated
knowledge and application of sensory analytical methods (descriptive,
discrimination). * Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate across
and within functions that represent diverse viewpoints * Proficient in the
use of Sensory data collection systems (i.e. Compusense,
SIMS) * Demonstrated application of multivariate statistics for data
analysis and interpretation, as well as experience with statistical
analysis software (i.e. SAS, JMP) * Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, Access) * Ability to multi-task and prioritize with
limited supervision * Strong written and oral communication skills *
