Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance Food Safety Specialist is accountable for food safety programs and initiatives at Central Kitchen. This position will monitor, develop and implement programs, policies and procedures in compliance with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and USDA certification programs. This position will also assist with the quality assurance of our private label food items.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelorís degree in Food Science, Safety or Microbiology or related field required.
  • Three (3) years experience in food quality and/or safety required.
  • HACCP Certification (within 3 months of hire) preferred.
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification preferred.
  • Food Safety Manager certification required.
  • Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification required.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  • Monitor, verify and validate HACCP programs and Standard Operating Procedures at Central Kitchen; including but not limited to Vendor Certification Program and Specifications.
  • Drive continued improvement in product trace back procedures and execute trace back exercises.
  • Assist in the continuing development, improvement, monitoring, and validation of required logs; including but not limited to temperature logs, calibration logs, training logs, corrective action logs, non-conforming product logs, C.O.O.L. verification of labels, etc.
  • Perform Food Safety Effectiveness audits at Central Kitchen.
  • Perform Food Safety associate training for both new hires and refresher training.
  • Develop, implement, and validate corrective actions as deemed necessary by HACCP, Food Safety and Management.
  • Test and verify Food Safety/Sanitation Program, product shelf-life and overall product quality.
  • Assist with Private Brand Quality Assurance or other required functions in absence of other Quality Assurance/Food Safety Staff.
  • Assist with recalls or other required function in the absence of other Environmental Health and Safety staff.
  • Perform the setup and tear down of equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance/Food Safety Manager.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (KSAs):

Ability to operate computer and other office and audio visual equipment. Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure. Ability to work a flexible work schedule including days, evenings, holidays and weekends. Ability to collect and analyze data and develop written programs. Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills. Knowledge of MS Office Suite. Knowledge of food technology, sensory, evaluation and sampling techniques. Knowledge of manufacturing plants, Good Manufacturing Practices, sanititation practices, food and drug regulations and regulatory agencies and food code. Willingness to obtain Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification within 3 months of hire. Ability to travel 25%.

The noise level in the work environment varies; office and retail setting may be low to moderate; distribution center setting may be moderate to high.
