Job Summary:

Responsible for the evaluation and analytical testing of raw materials and finished products. Assist microbiologist by cross-training in media preparations, compositing and other assigned tasks. Additional responsibilities include performing cleanliness inspections of equipment prior to operations start up.

Must be capable of working in a fast paced micro lab environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Perform analysis on incoming ingredients in accordance with approved test methods.
  2. Perform analysis on in-process and finished products.
  3. Perform analysis for R&D samples for specifications.
  4. Collect Micro and finished product samples.
  5. Perform Micro analysis and be the back-up for the microbiologist as needed.
  6. Maintain the integrity and calibration of all QC Laboratory test equipment.
  7. Record data and maintain the integrity of all laboratory records.
  8. Review critical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  9. Make accept / reject decisions on incoming raw materials, pre-shipment samples and blends based on company / customer specifications.
  10. Put defective product on Hold in accordance with Hold procedure.
  11. Responsible for determination of disposition of out of compliance inventory.
  12. Responsible for resolution and reporting of defect issues that occur during manufacture such as foreign material contamination.
  13. Interact with all plant departments to communicate testing results and to resolve Quality problems.
  14. Train operators on policies/procedures as needed.
  15. Take the lead with the external sanitation company to assure our equipment, policies and chemicals are in compliance with standards and policies.
  16. Follow and enforce all food safety programs, procedures, and policies.
  17. Ensure all products are produced in compliance with company standards and applicable laws.
  18. Perform all other duties or special assignments that are deemed necessary by the Quality Manager.
  19. Participant of Recall Team.
  20. Participant in plant monthly GMP and Sanitation audits.
  21. Be able to rotate to all jobs and time slots within the department.
  22. Maintain a clean and orderly workstation.
  23. Will be required to wear, while in production, hairnet, safety shoes and safety glasses.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or related area.
  • 2-4 years Food Manufacturing experience in Quality Control
  • At least 1 year experience in food related plant operations or equivalent
  • Flexibility in schedule – ability to work every 3rd Saturday in micro upon completion of training for a few hours
  • Computer literate to be able to learn & utilize our computerized systems
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Familiar with analytical testing equipment.
  • Comfortable working in a plant environment.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus
