LAB TECHNOLOGIST R&D POSITION SUMMARY:
The R&D lab technician assists R&D department in development of new products and adaptation of new and existing formulas to meet customer specification that support existing business and create new business opportunities for Trilliant.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Lab Technologist will assist R&D in preparing samples to submit to customers
  • Ability to follow a formula by accurately weighing out all ingredients on a gram scale and cooking up samples accordingly to specified procedures
  • Responsible for completion of assigned research and development projects in a timely manner
  • Responsibilities include formulation batch sheets, bench top cook up, flavor and color application
  • Ability to conduct analytical methods on new and existing ingredients and products accordingly to specified procedures
  • Enter production formulas and process procedures in computer; complete required documentation
  • Maintain product specifications on new products and update as needed
  • Provide product information and technical support to customers as required
  • Participate and promote continuous improvement activities as required
  • Maintain updated customer lists and files
  • Maintain R&D Project files and electronic files
  • Maintain R&D Master files to include formulas, specs, nutritional and label
  • Order R&D lab documents
  • Assist R&D in preparing samples to conduct sensory evaluation on ingredients and products
  • Assist R&D in preparing samples to conduct product shelf life studies
  • Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when required.
  • Responsible for ensuring work area is clean and organized.
  • Committed to ensuring that the products produced meet all food safety and quality requirements
  • Responsible for all other duties as assigned by Food Technologist or VP of R&D.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related degree
  • 0-4 years’ experience in related food industry preferred.
  • Creative thinking and a passion for Innovation
  • Acute, sensory skills
  • Broad understanding of the fundamentals of Food Science with the ability to remain up-to-date on new and emerging technologies and ability to apply to product design.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with various levels of an organization.
  • Highly organized, self-starter able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt well to change and able to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Advanced PC skills: Windows, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Microsoft Project or similar software desired.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or listen.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit; use hands to handle documents or feel and taste or smell.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
