The Sensory Technician is responsible for the implementation of sensory conformance program requirements. In partnership with the National Office Sensory Scientist, develop and implement site specific innovations to assure product quality and conformance. As an R&D resource, this position requires working closely with Product Development, Process Development, Supply, Engineering and Commercial to identify the most cost effective solution yielding consistent product quality and safety.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

•Implement and execute Conformance Program’s Best Practices and Minimum Requirements

•Working in partnership with the National Office Sensory Scientist, develop and implement innovations in assuring sensory conformance.

•Manage Site based Conformance and On Line Sensory Programs – recruiting, training and calibrating Associates.

•Improve processes and systems through innovation, effective change control, research, and auditing.

•Support additional Mars Chocolate North America Business Unit activities with Flex Supply and Supplier Quality Assurance by providing product conformance support.

•Execute customer solutions of profitable sales growth for products/assortment (everyday/new products/promoted/seasonal), placement and everyday shelving and merchandising, pricing (everyday/seasonal/promotional), promotion and seasonal merchandising that achieve customer retail objectives, category leadership and company objectives

•See through new product launches with timely and effective execution to maximize retail impact

•Influence retail outlet to implement solutions through fact based presentations that deliver results that are beneficial for both retail/headquarter customer and company

•Execute all agreed to solutions with customer to include accurate, timely forecasting and detailed follow through

•Share customer feedback and retail observations, bring forward potential solutions

Key Requirements:

•Ability to identify flavor, odor and texture

•Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate a team.

•Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

•Ability to work independently as well as within a team setting.

•Strong knowledge of sensory practices and protocols.

•Working knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, macros, etc.

•Demonstrated experience using a computer data handling system for input, storage, manipulation and analysis of data.

•Ability and aptitude to work in an R&D, Manufacturing, and/or Distribution environment.

•Effective ability to influence without authority.

•Must have a thorough understanding of the detailed path of raw materials and finished products through the Manufacturing operations.

•Must have strong organizational skills and be able to schedule and prioritize daily work to assure meeting deadlines.

•Must be able to multi-task effectively. Must be able to adapt to unplanned priority changes while maintaining consistent, high quality work standards.

•Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as function as an effective team member.

•Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

•Must demonstrate the ability to think and work independently, to initiate projects and bring them to completion

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related sciences OR may substitute Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of sensory/technical work experience in food manufacturing
•1+ year work experience in R&D, Manufacturing or Sensory positions
•Course work in Sensory Evaluation, Panel Leadership, Spectrum Method for Descriptive Analysis, equivalent work experience in related areas desired
•Work experience in Sensory Evaluation, Quality Control, Analytical, Product Development and/or Manufacturing
•Successful Completion of a drug and background screen

 

Preferred Requirements:
•Advanced Degree
•Experience as a Conformance Panelist and/or Descriptive Panelist is a plus.
