Seeking a quality leader from another major Consumer Package Goods (CPG) food or beverage company with plant floor operations and experience managing an array of suppliers assessing ingredients, food allergens etc. This role will be working closely with R&D & Procurement for Packaging and Raw Ingredients. Up to 50% travel is required.

This position is an avenue into Corporate Quality or to move into a Region Quality Manager role over co-packers.

This position is primarily responsible for managing the Quality Assurance portion of raw material supply by partnering with R&D, procurement, and the manufacturing facilities to ensure that ingredients and food contact packaging meet or exceed quality standards and regulatory requirements. The position will also have secondary responsibility for a limited number of company co-manufacturing locations.

Develop and conduct risk based auditing for suppliers to assure compliance to company and regulatory requirements. This includes the following:
Request and review supplier documentation (Supplier Questionnaires, Allergen Statements, MSDS’s, specifications, Kosher and Organic documents, etc)
Perform and document hazard assessments on materials
Partner with R&D to develop material specifications
Partner with Procurement to establish COA’s and supplier expectations (scorecard)
Establish sampling and testing protocols for those ingredients that pose food safety risk
Verify and improve if necessary, the suppliers food safety program for FSMA compliance (both domestic and foreign suppliers) and document as such
Communicate results of audits to vendors and company Purchasing.
Ensure suppliers maintain a GFSI recognized certification scheme.
Manage, within the Co-packer Quality Program, the overall quality of assigned co-packers, with emphasis placed on assessment of risk for each facility.
Develop and maintain risk assessment of assigned co-packers. Risk assessment may include on-site food safety and quality audits, KPI results, business needs, etc.
Stay current with ongoing performance of each co-packer as well as changes that may occur that would modify a co-packer’s risk to company.
Oversee the management and improvement of quality of finished products produced at assigned co-packer locations.
Implement and ensure conformance to QA programs to prevent food quality or food safety issues at manufacturing facilities (company owned and / or contract manufacturing locations) and off site storage facilities.
Implement and or strengthen programs used to identify, track, and resolve supplier nonconformance issues and clearly communicate expectations to such suppliers.
Staying up to date on the latest regulatory guidelines surrounding ingredient suppliers
Work with the organic compliance manager to insure ingredient compliance to organic and kosher requirements.
Troubleshoot problems associated with company production in assigned facilities; ensure root cause / corrective actions are appropriate and are fully implemented.

Preferred Candidate Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
Degree: Minimum of BS in Science / Food Science / Technical Discipline
Prefer 8 years previous Quality Assurance experience in food/beverage manufacturing environments with emphasis on ESL, Aseptic, and/or Dairy processing.
Understanding of plant production systems, FSMA, SQF, GMP, HACCP, sanitation, plant safety, quality systems, kosher and organic regulations.
Minimum level of responsibility as Quality Assurance Manager for a food manufacturing facility

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be a leader, able to motivate others, able to recognize areas of need across the company and tackle projects independently
Must possess superior spreadsheet, word processing and database computer skills
Must be able to travel up to 50%
Must have excellent communication / presentation skills
Excellent record keeping / documentation skills
