QA Technician
Sabra Dipping Company, LLC - Oceanside, CA

SUMMARY :

In the absence of the Quality Assurance Supervisor, the Quality Assurance Technician must stand-in to oversee all phases of the daily laboratory operations within the scope of quality, safety and legal standards of the company. The Technician must administer applicable laboratory tests and record the results in the appropriate database, as well as making suggestions from the findings to improve product quality. The Technician must be capable of following both written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision. The Technician must promote a safe working environment by wearing the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The Quality Assurance/Control Technician must:

  • Perform assigned duties accurately and in a timely manner
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and sensory evaluation to identify flavor differences and/or judge physical differences of product according to the Quality and Process control plan
  • Understand and comply with the GMPs/HACCP/BRC/Allergen/Safety rules
  • Work with production department employees to improve work procedures and enhance productivity
  • Implement, maintain and monitor laboratory-testing procedures, while sustaining working condition equipment, ensuring quality control and cost effectiveness.
  • Be responsible to take specified corrective actions when a Critical Control Point is detected out of control
  • Ensure the required paper work and data entry for his/her respective department is completed correctly
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of food safety protocols
  • Pass a Lab Proficiency Test in equipment usage and HACCP/BRC understanding
  • Accurately and rapidly, calibrate and use all lab equipment including pH, TA, Brix, Bostwick, Temperature, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS :
To perform this job successfully, the Quality Assurance/Control Technician must perform each of the duties listed above satisfactorily. This position also requires the Technician possess the ability to do simple math on a calculator. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and or abilities required. LANGUAGE SKILLS:
The Quality Assurance/Control Technician must have the ability to communicate effectively with subordinates. The Technician must be capable of reading and writing routine reports, legibly, in English and Spanish, as well as the ability to interpret safety materials, standard paperwork and official documents.

MATHEMATICAL, PHYSICAL & COMPUTATIONAL SKILLS:
The Quality Assurance/Control Technician must have basic math knowledge: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, in addition to calculating percentages. The ability to read, understand, and interpret graphs is a needed skill. This position also requires the capacity to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands, as well as the ability to identify differences in product and in flavor. Familiarity with basic computer functions is also necessary, and the knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/Access is essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing his/her daily duties, exposure to moderate heat and a cold/moist/wet environment, materials and light chemical substances, such as cleaning solutions or food preservatives is expected (PPE is available). The Quality Assurance/Control Technician will also be required to stand or walk for prolong periods and on occasion sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or reaching with hands, as well light lifting (up to 20 lbs).
