Food Scientist




Kenís Foods is looking for a self-motivated, team-oriented Food Scientist to join our team in Marlborough, MA.  The Food Scientist will participate in the development and reformulation of products from concept to commercialization.  The position requires a Bachelorís Degree in Food Science or applicable science and 3-5 years of food related experience and or training in a related field



        New Product Development/Product Improvements/Cost reductions (80%).  Able to work with key National Account customers to deliver new dressings and sauces. 

        Develop samples using research lab, pilot lab, and manufacturing facilities that meet customerís criteria.

        Build a working knowledge of all production lines and the processes involved in product manufacturing. Understand the impact of these processes on the finished product.

        Provides solutions to a wide range of problems by applying technical knowledge and experience.

        Manage active product changes and transitions to ensure nutritional and regulatory compliance on all packaging and labels.

        Support best practices and SOPs with regards to shelf life studies, product material evaluations and identify areas of opportunity for quality improvements.

        Support sourcing team in selection and procurement of ingredients.

        Operate with moderate supervision

        Coordinate and complete small and medium projects or manages segments of larger projects. Defines project objectives, organizing and prioritizing tasks and conducting experiments and analyses.

        Provide technical support to Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, and external customers in the areas of product features and benefits, product solutions, and ingredient functionality.

        Performs related responsibilities, as needed, to support Kenís Foods business objectives.

        Provides technical support to Operations to resolve product related production issue by identifying root cause, develop technical solutions, and implement changes. 

        Documents all formulas, process development and tests which have been conducted and records results of such tests according to department protocol.

        Maintains a sanitary, safe and orderly work environment.



        Ability to work effectively with Product Development peers, Project Team members and plant personnel to drive results.

        Ability to coach/lead less experienced Product Development associates.

        Ability to collaborate with customers to determine requirements and design customized products.

        Working within a laboratory environment.

        Working knowledge of food manufacturing, quality and food safety systems, sanitation, allergens, SOPís and safety protocols.

        PC Skills (Excel, Word, database, statistical software) and the ability to create spreadsheets, computer analysis, report writing, and presentations.

        Able to accept and interpret direction competently and professionally.

        Effectively manage priorities and dynamic deadlines.

        Self-motivated, flexible and positive in a fast-paced business environment.

        Efficient time management and communication.

        Problem-solving and analytical skills.

        Demonstrated technical expertise / PD experience.

        Flexible and positive in a fast-paced business environment.

        Ability to work in accordance with safety and food safety policies.

        Ability and willingness to travel at least 10 Ė 20%.



Education and/or Experience

        Requires a Bachelorís degree in Food Science, Culinary Arts, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field.  Masterís degree is preferred. 

        Minimum 3 - 7 years of product development experience.  Technical expertise in the dressings and sauces category is preferred.
