Lisle, IL office.
WHAT DOES A FOOD SCIENTIST DO AT JOHN MORRELL FOOD GROUP?
The Food Scientist will provide Research & Development,
lead projects (or portions of projects) and document all results as well as
the research of programs to drive cost optimization through formulation and
processing efficiencies, create new prototypes for product development
initiatives, and identify/approve potential ingredient and manufacturing
•Develop new products and line extensions from bench top to
commercialization. •Perform pilot plant tests to generate product prototypes. •Run production tests at manufacturing plants as required. •Work with on-line formulation data base system to create
or adjust product formulations. •Maintain accurate project files, formulations,
specifications and project data. •Document progress, organize product reviews, and provide
oral and written progress updates. •Work with cross functional teams (Marketing, sales,
Business Development, Operations, Finance, Engineering, Quality, Process
Control, etc.) in projects requiring product development support. •Continuously improve and update food/meat science and
product development skills through appropriate training and other learning
activities/ • USDA/FDA regulations and hands-on working in projects. •Assist other R&D team members as required.
AM I QUALIFIED TO BE A FOOD SCIENTIST FOR JMFG? Qualified
candidate must possess the following:
•Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or
university with 0-2 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree from a
regionally accredited college or university with 3-5 years of experience in
the food/meat industry. •Must be highly motivated, with a high level of integrity,
and possess excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills. •A close working relationship with Marketing and Operations
will be needed to be successful. •Strong scientific knowledge of meat science and meat
processing, as well as non-meat ingredients and their functionality. •Ability to work with pilot plant equipment with minimal
supervision. •Ability to multi-task. •Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and
time management skills. •Knowledge of USDA and FDA regulations. •Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing situations. •Proficient in on-line work systems and product development
software tools. •Willingness to travel 25-30% of the time; may occasionally
need to travel more, depending on project needs.
