Job Summary

At Impossible Food, we have developed and we are commercializing a technology platform to address each problem head on through the creation of new delicious, sustainable plant based foods.

Core Functions And Responsibilities

This person is a key contributor to our pilot plant scale and bench scale food product development program. Key objectives are to inform design towards a robust and cost feasible product through characterization of the interactions between processing parameters, ingredients, and packaging. This position reports to head of product development.

  • Prepare test batches of foods at pilot scale and bench top scale
  • Evaluate test batches for processing parameters, sensory properties, microbiological criteria, consumer preparation criteria and other quality parameters
  • Evaluate new processing equipment
  • Conduct shelf life studies and packaging evaluations
  • Support production of consumer test batches

Other Functions

  • Assist with final product process specification development
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, organized and safe workplace
  • Participate in internal sensory panels
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

No immediate supervisory responsibilities.

Education And/Or Experience

  • B.S. degree in Food Engineering, Food Science, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field
  • 1 - 3 years work experience ideally in a food pilot plant environment

Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated data collection and experiment reporting skills
  • Comfortable with experimental design, data interpretation, and presentation
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working across projects and teams.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. There are typically between 10-20 employees in the lab at any given time. Proper PPE is provided for employees entering the lab or pilot plant. Time will be split between pilot plant process floor, laboratory and desk work.
