- Responsible for coordinating
and executing internal sensory tests, including panel recruitment,
test execution, data entry, routine statistical analyses, and
reporting results both orally and in written documentation, with
emphasis on data integrity.
- Responsible for maintaining
the internal sensory panel including administering sensory acuity
tests, panel attendance and proficiency, incentive programs, panel
recruitment, communication and consent forms.
- Supports internal DOD and/or
DA panels through sample and reference preparation as well as panel
administration, training and leadership.
- Organize sensory laboratory
schedule to maximize sensory laboratory effectiveness as well as
meeting business needs. Maintain laboratory cleanliness, safety and
execution rigor to ISO 9001 Standards.
- Maintains sensory laboratory
schedule and effectively executes sensory tests following good
sensory evaluation practices ensuring data integrity.
- On-going recruitment and
maintenance of the sensory panelist pool. Conducts orientation
sessions and sensory acuity assessments to select panelists.
- Collaborates with sensory
and consumer scientists to align on project objectives, execute
projects flawlessly and communicate findings.
- Supervises daily work for
sensory laboratory technicians; sets roles and tasks for technicians
on a day to day basis.
- Maintains sensory laboratory
based on ISO 9001 standards including: required software systems (ie Compusense) and
equipment (scales, pre-mix fountain).
- Purchases and maintains
proper level of laboratory supply inventory with a productivity lens.
- Tracks Key Performance
Indicators (KPI) for the sensory lab such as 1). Costs (ie Panelist Incentives, laboratory supply costs),
2). Test volume, 3). Corrective And
Preventive Action (CAPA) and 4). Panelist performance and attendance.
- Prepares training samples
and references for DOD and/or DA panels, as needed.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrates ability to be
an effective influence manager, capable of getting the client and
partners to do the right research at the right time thereby
increasing client success rate. Demonstrates awareness of technical
risk to mitigate project risks.
- Solid working knowledge of
sensory test design and execution.
- Solid working knowledge of Compusense and other survey tools.
- Working knowledge of sensory
methods including descriptive analysis (DA), discrimination and
consumer testing methods, qualitative research techniques. Panel
leadership, a plus.
- Working knowledge of basic
statistics including the appropriate use of statistical technique to
analyze and interpret data. Some knowledge on the use of experimental

of best practices to provide quality data to support research
objectives including basic principles of data and intellectual

fundamental food science; product development and manufacturing
experience a plus.
- Working knowledge and
application of Good Laboratory Practices (e.g., handling of food,
beverages, glassware, stainless steel tanks, pressurized gasses,
preparation of samples and references, proper measuring techniques,
data management, housekeeping).
- Awareness and some knowledge
of consumer test research design.

including ability to write concise, informative reports and the
ability to communicate technical information to a wide audience.
