Food Pilot Plant Technologist

Primary Function

The Food Pilot Plant Technologist will assist in running food process scale-up equipment for Technical Service and New Product Innovation projects by working closely with our US/Canada Customer Service & Product Innovation (CSPI) and Global Innovation Group (GIG) team members.  The Technologist will also collaborate closely with our Sales Team and customers on multiple customer projects and conduct bench and in-house pilot plant and production scale trials in our Food Pilot plant.  The Technologist will manage and lead multiple activities within the Food Pilot Plant, including setting up equipment schedules, signing out equipment, maintaining food pilot plant supplies and operating complex pieces of equipment, such as the Micro Thermic unit.  The Technologist will also ensure that Food Pilot Plant SOP’s and GMP’s practices are adhered to.

Key Deliverables

 

 

 

Business

·        Work closely with customers, actively using knowledge of our overall business strategy, products, and markets to successfully execute specific customer projects in the Food Pilot plant.

·        Demonstrate knowledge of the company’s technologies by helping to identify how customers can enhance and expand their product offerings using Ingredion’s technologies and solutions. Apply product and application “know-how” to identify technology solutions.

·        Utilize project management skills to manage and prioritize work. Understand project priorities and workloads and balance multiple demands to execute and deliver projects on time.

Agility and  Innovation

·        Provide technical expertise and support to customers for a broad range of food applications. Utilizes knowledge management tools to bring the best solutions to customers.

·        Conduct Food Pilot plant scale trials with internal and external customers.

·        Execute experiments and scale-ups based on customer needs. Design and implement new product technologies for customers and internal clients.

·        Keep appropriate records and data.

·        Safely operate and maintain multiple pieces of food processing equipment.

and People

·        Collaborate with peers, management and customers to make individual contributions to deliver goals and execute project plans.

·        Train colleagues and teammates from Technical Service, Sales, Applications and Research on the safe operation of Food Pilot Plant Equipment.

·        Serve as an active team member, actively seeking feedback and guidance from manager. Help others and responds to business needs.

·        Seek opportunities (training, projects, etc.) that develop knowledge and skills to become a stronger contributor.

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills,

and Requirements:

·        2 to 5 + years of experience in conducting bench and in-house pilot plant and production scale trials preferred.

·        BS in Food Science/Food Engineering/Chemical Engineering preferred.

·        Creative, hands-on food concept development formulation experience using pilot plant equipment.

·        Experience in operating Food Manufacturing / Food Processing / Food Ingredient Equipment preferred.

·        Strong knowledge of common food processes, food ingredient functionality and ingredient interactions.

·        Demonstrated project management skills and experience to execute work and deliver projects on time.

·        Knowledge of Six Sigma and statistical data analysis preferred.

·        Experience operating Food Manufacturing / Food Processing / Food Ingredient Equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude, mechanical process knowledge.

·        Willing and able to work flexible hours to cover pilot plant operation (7AM – 6PM).

·        Excellent interpersonal and technical skills

·        Solid written communication skills (technical reports for internal and external distribution, presentations, etc…)
