Title: Research Scientist

 

DESCRIPTION:

Research Scientist II (Elwood, IN) needed to conduct the following duties:

  • Manage and coordinate product development for different food product platforms:
    • Bench scale development of new products, line extensions, formula renovation, product match to national brands and formula customization per customer needs. Scale up and formula transfer to operations for commercialization.
    • Responsible for all technical aspects of product including analytical and organoleptic specification, ingredient legend, regulatory and label compliance.
    • Work with ingredient suppliers on new ingredients and value addition to current existing products.
    • Work with retail, private brand and food service customers to meet the productís analytical & sensory expectations.
  • Work on cost savings projects to determine current gaps and develop counter measures for potential improvements that could be made in product formulations, specifications and process maintaining quality of product
  • Develop proposals per project basis.
  • Develop product technical specifications including ingredient declaration and nutritional information for new products and product reformulations
  • Communicate project status to internal as well as external customers in order to keep all the project stakeholders updated
  • Assist in scale up & process development for transferring formula to operations. Conduct plant trials for new product commercialization, line extensions and product renovation. Implement problem solving exercises at all levels of development work using leans tools like A3 and value stream mapping to increase efficiency and deliver maximum output.
  • Provide technical support to operations in regards to product, process & quality challenges and aid in developing solutions using lean problem solving process.
  • During fresh pack season work with operations and quality assurance department on product and process improvement, aid in developing solutions for technical challenges and specification updates.
  • Conduct shelf life studies with regards to new formulation or packaging changes
  • Create project reports, document results for experimentation and maintain records of work


Position requires Bachelorís degree in Food Science, Food Process Engineering or closely related and 5 years of progressive post-bachelorís R&D experience in the food industry, including experience with spices & flavors.
