PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The Director of Quality Assurance and Food Safety for External Suppliers provides the focus and leadership for Global External Supply in the area of Food Safety and QA required to deliver on the organization’s strategic priorities. This person will develop and execute the strategic plans for external supply , consistent with the Rich's Vision (including Food Safety and Quality Assurance).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES:

  • Develops both short and long range business plans for global external supply based on company strategic objectives. Communicates these plans to executive management. Obtains and deploys resources (people, budget) necessary to accomplish these plans.
  • Develops global external supply Food Safety and Quality policy and/or changes which will optimize performance that support supply chain initiatives.
  • Develops and directs the implementation of the global Food Safety and Quality Assurance requirements for all Suppliers and External Mfg of Rich Products Corporation.
  • Directs the global Food Safety/Quality assessments of Suppliers and External supply to determine selection, approval and monitoring programs.
  • Defines and implements global external supply Food Safety/Quality metrics. Drives improvement in FS/QA performance across external supply.
  • Contributing member of the Global Procurement Steering team and PCT (Product Category Teams). Assists in establishing and implementing the strategic direction of the teams.
  • Leads guides, coaches /mentors and develops staff of 5 FS/QA associates, ensuring performance, development and career plans are in place.
  • Ensures Associates understand the business group plans, the link with Rich’s business strategies and the role of each associate in accomplishing these plans.
  • Liaison with key customers to support customer intimacy.
  • Monitors emerging food safety issues, regulatory trends as it relates to external supply that impacts RPC.
  • Acts as a leader in the technical community for specific scientific or regulatory discipline. Enhances the stature of the discipline though benchmarking, sharing of knowledge, identifying opportunities for greater application of findings and supporting legislative /and or lobbying initiatives.
  • Establishes Quality and Food Safety objectives for global strategic alliances with key suppliers.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Food Science or related field
  • 15 – 20 years progressive quality assurance and food safety experience with a minimum of 5 years at a senior level position
  • 10 of the 15 years of experience must be in a decision making position (authority to define, execute, or control project/processes and to be responsible for the outcome)
  • In depth working knowledge of food processing, regulatory requirements, food preservation, food borne illness, food allergies, pest management, sanitary design, sanitation and food microbiology
  • Certified HACCP trainer, Good Manufacturing Practices Trainer, and ability to develop, deliver and evaluate quality and food safety training programs
  • Ability to establish statistical process controls
  • Ability to identify and recommend corrective action and continuous process improvement
  • Knowledge of specifications, calibration and process capability
  • Skilled in conducting facility audits and assessing quality and food safety system performance
  • Ability to effectively implement quality initiatives
  • Relentless dedication to product quality, thoroughness, detail and consistency
  • Personal computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Office programs and statistical software
  • Global travel up to 25%
