Position Summary:
Responsible for the development of seasonings blends from cost effective formulation design, concept generation to execution and scale-up, across snack, soup sauce, prepared foods and protein categories. Effectively and independently manages customer related projects and proactive initiatives. The role includes direct customer interactions and presentations from time to time as well as providing overall support to the savory technical team. The Seasoning Development Coordinator also manages the day-to-day activities of the seasoning sample lab and related personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
A. Develops seasonings and duplicates competitive products, through the successful management and timely completion of customer related projects, in accordance with project parameters and customer requirements. Responsible for cost optimization, productivity analysis, and raw material review rationalization, relative to seasonings and their ingredient portfolio Effectively utilizes critical support functions; Innovations, Analytical, MCI, and Regulatory in the development process.

B. Effectively manages the Teterboro sample lab and associated personnel to ensure customer samples and internal requirements are fulfilled in a timely fashion. Develops new and efficient work practices to increase sample lab productivity. Interacts with the Elyria pilot plant function in scale-up procedures; Supports QC on first time production reviews.

C. Responsible for the evaluation and validation of seasoning blends in specific applications in accordance with customer processing parameters.

D. Provide technical assistance and seasoning development expertise to strategic customers. Develop technical to technical contact and participate in customer calls and technical presentations.

E. Responsible for creating commercially feasible seasonings, adhering to formula guidelines and scale-up procedures. Knowledge of label requirements is essential.

F. Stay abreast of new food ingredient developments and technologies, trends and innovation, as well as processing and equipment advances relative to key Savory categories.

G. Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment in their area of jurisdiction. Attend required safety training and is trained in the proper care and use of lab equipment.

Other Functions:
Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a B.S. in Food Science or related subject.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a seasoning development role.
  • A high level of creativity is required to conceive and implement new seasoning concepts.
  • Experience with applications technologies in the Savory category.

Skills Abilities:

  • Ability to develop commercially viable seasonings that meet customer requirements relative to profile, performance, ingredient restrictions and cost.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including personnel management
  • Ability to work in a project team-driven environment.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload and adhere to deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge of spices, food ingredients, equipment, and processing is required.
  • It is necessary to be able to represent oneself, work, and the company in a professional and technical manner to customers.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Must be proficient in Word and Excel.
  • Must be willing and able to taste and smell flavors.
