Quality Assurance and Food
Safety (HACCP) Specialist
Industrial Biosciences seeks a Quality Assurance and Food Safety (HACCP)
Specialist to support the Quality and Food Safety Management System at the
Madison site as needed to assure that products produced comply with all
internal, customer, and regulatory requirements. The position is located at
the Madison, WI facility.
Provide leadership and
individual contribution in maintaining compliance with Food and Dietary
Supplements regulations (21CFR117 (“FSMA”) and 21CFR111) and certifications
(ISO 9001, FSSC 22000). Coordinates the HACCP system, leads the HACCP and
Food Safety Team, and trains personnel on Quality and Food Safety
topics. Works with operations in a manufacturing environment, performing
pre-operational inspections, routine quality monitoring activities, non-conformance investigation, and contributing to
projects. Provides trends, reports, and status updates to
management. Interacts with other departments and customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Provide leadership in ensuring continuous improvement and
compliance of quality system programs to regulatory, internal, and
Coordinate the HACCP system and lead the HACCP and Food Safety
Team. Support the Food Safety Management System, including
implementation, monitoring, and verification of HACCP, Preventative Controls,
and Pre-Requisite Programs.
Monitors, trends, and reports to Management compliance to GMPs
and of pre-requisite programs.
Coordinate and participate in sanitation verification,
environmental sampling and monitoring, prepare or review and approve reports,
and trend performance as applicable. Provide trends, reports, and status
updates to management.
Perform daily batch record review and batch releases,
including verification of CCP, oPRP, and QC
records, label accountability, and track compliance rates.
Organize, conduct, and track training of quality and food
safety procedures including GMPs, GDPs, HACCP, Food
Contribute to the maintenance of quality management systems
including Non-Conformances and Deviations, CAPA, Customer Complaints,
and Management of Change
Lead or contribute to improvement efforts when needed,
including Root Cause investigations and Corrective and Preventative Action of
quality issues and customer complaints.
Perform internal audits in regards to required GMPs,
Pre-requisite Programs, ISO 9001, and FSSC 22000
Participate and represent QA&FS in projects, as needed.
Participate in customer, certification, and regulatory audits
and contribute to corrective actions, as needed.
Develop and promote awareness for product and production
quality. Communicate internally any information concerning quality and
food safety. Support an environment of continuous improvement

Remain current in the field.
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Food
Science, or related field and should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in
quality or technical role with experience in GMP, Food Safety, and HACCP.
Experience with the following is required:
Working knowledge of HACCP food safety programs
Working in a manufacturing environment in a quality or
Performing GMP audits/inspections of food (or related)
Experience with the following is preferred:
Leading a HACCP team
Giving training presentations relevant to HACCP, GMPs,
Quality, and/or Food Safety
Working in an ISO or GFSI (SQF or FSSC 22000) –certified
Experience with Corrective & Preventative Actions (CAPA)
Internal auditing to ISO or GFSI standards
Pest control programs
Assisting in customer audits, certification audits, and
Evaluating compliance of procedures with Food regulations
(21CFR110 and 21CFR117 (FSMA)) and Dietary Supplements regulations (21CFR111)
HACCP certification (IHA, NSF or equivalent)
Advanced HACCP certification (Validation and Verification)
Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI)
Must collaboratively lead or contribute to team-based
problem-solving of manufacturing quality issues and continuous improvement
Must possess effective communication, collaboration, skills to
lead or contribute to team-based problem-solving of manufacturing quality
issues and continuous improvement efforts within the department and with
Must possess strong organizational and time-management skills

This position operates
in both the office and plant environments.
Must adhere to plant
GMP’s and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate in

SCOPE OF POSITION
This position reports
directly to the QA & Food Safety Manager for the Madison site and is
directly responsible for the maintenance and verification of Quality and Food
Safety Management Systems at the Madison site.
