Under the supervision of the Quality & Regulatory Operations Manager, the Food Safety Leader is responsible for providing food safety leadership in one of our manufacturing plants to deliver a world class sanitation operation. This person will lead and develop sanitation programs across the plant to achieve outstanding results and reduce food safety risks. This person will oversee the sanitation team and work directly with the Sanitation Planner to coordinate sanitation activities in the plant to ensure operational food safety and accountability is achieved. We are currently hiring for multiple plant locations. 


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

·        Supervision of Sanitation Department including administrative duties to manage the overall team.

·        Coordinate daily with the Sanitation Planner to develop daily/weekly/downtime plans as well as discuss upcoming projects. Monitor the effectiveness of activities to ensure successful completion of all Sanitation activities as outlined in the plan.

·        Perform daily plant walkthroughs to identify and prioritize food safety risks. Partner with Operations to address identified risks.

·        Plant wide management of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) including routine MSS reviews, updates as needed, Maximo upkeep, Standard Sanitation Operating Procedure (SSOP) development and reviews, and SSOP validations and data maintenance.

·        Participate on project teams to ensure sanitary design standards and sanitation needs are achieved (early management).

·        Management and oversight of the plant Chemical Control Program with the Sanitation Planner including chemical inventory management through Ecolab, plant SOP maintenance and upkeep, chemical titration, training, and PPE requirements to ensure the program properly supports sanitation and operational needs.

·        Oversight of Integrated Pest Management Program including but not limited to annual program review, pest control operator management, pesticide management, microgen management (application and heatups), pest control operator training, and regulatory reporting.

·        Develop and execute sanitation training programs for plant personnel, new hires, and contractors as required by corporate, FSSC, and regulatory requirements.

·        Ensure department compliance to all SSOP’s and department SOP’s.

·        Ensure department compliance to all GMP, safety standards, and GMI QRO Policies & Standards

·        Key resource for pathogen environmental monitoring program (PEMP) to include program development, mitigation coordination and root cause analysis.

·        Identify and lead sanitation department 5S initiatives. Coordinate execution with the Operations and Logistics departments on non-routine items identified in the plant.

·        Actively participate on all external audits including but not limited to VCOE, FSSC, and FDA/NYS.

·        Food Safety Team member

·        Engagement in FSRA activities including monthly program verifications, self-assessments, and risk management plan objectives.

·        Oversight of the sanitation budget including supplies, labor, and professional services.

·        Perform additional duties as assigned by the QRO Manager to meet business needs.


·        Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Science – Chemical, Food Science or General Science

·        3-5 years manufacturing experience, food industry and sanitation experience preferred

·        Experience managing people



·        Lead continuous improvement efforts within the plant related to food safety opportunities.

·        Establish and sustain sound relationships with all employees in order to foster an environment where innovative methods are used to find creative solutions to issues.

·        Create and promote positive employee relations through inclusiveness and respectful behaviors.

·        Provide Food Safety and Sanitation business leadership within the plant to support and execute department and plant goals.

·        Visibly support strategies set by plant leadership.

·        Facilitate, coach, counsel, and guide the sanitation team to ensure they have the technical and interpersonal skills to deliver sustainable results.

·        Function as a technical resource in the areas of food safety and sanitation in both cereal and flour.  

·        Identify outstanding food safety, sanitation, and quality issues and work with appropriate plant resources to rectify these issues.

·        Facilitate the effective exchange of information between work groups and support resources at the plant.

·        Act as liaison between the QRO, Operations, Logistics, and Maintenance departments.

·        Participate in meetings when his/her presence is required.
