Job Description:

Carl Karcher Enterprises, LLC is actively seeking a Food Technologist in Carpinteria, CA. The Food Technologist is responsible for developing new concepts and products in an effort to attract new and existing consumers. This position also researches consumer and competitor trends in an effort to identify market opportunities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

May perform any or all of the following duties:

   Identifies product opportunities resulting in the development of new concepts that can be integrated into the Company

   Researches social media sites and conducts competitor analysis as it relates to menu items and consumers in an effort to identify market opportunities

   Maintains an open and creative approach to new product and program opportunities

   Manages supplier activities (product formulation, processing procedures and other product related aspects) in regards to development activities

   Presents product development information to management and project team members for activity approval and next steps

   Designs and executes experimental plans compiling appropriate data utilizing approved technical methods and procedures

   Attends production runs to ensure finished product meets the agreed upon standards

   Develops and communicates technical specification data on new products

   Generates recipes for projects to be used as a food cost standard

   Collaborates with restaurant operations to ensure products, packaging and procedures are optimized to meet employee and guest expectations

   Works with training team to ensure product information is available for resource guides

   Partners with Supply Chain Management to ensure product information and availability is met in a timely manner

   Participates in company meetings, webinars and conference calls

   Attends seminars and other educational resources to remain current

   Other duties and/or special projects as assigned in response to changing business conditions and/or requirements

Experience and Skills:

   Approximately three (3) to five (5) years experience in food product research and development, food manufacturing or related field

   BS in Food Science, Food Business and/or Nutrition or similar field

   Intermediate to advanced knowledge in MS Excel (create spreadsheets and formulas)

   Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management both internally and externally

   Strong working knowledge in the concept of food, technical requirements and specifications of food products

   Working knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding allergens and food handling

   Must be able to work as a team and independently

   Ability to analyze complex variable situations and identify appropriate courses of action

   Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver in depth technical presentations

   Strong work ethic: commitment to seeing duties completed at a high standard of quality

   Demonstrated ability with establishing structures and processes to plan and delegate effectively
