R&D Project Manager and Food Technician



This position works as a member of a highly dynamic product development team to deliver both factory and brand ready formulas and procedures based on bench samples that meet brand, company or industry standards.
As an R&D Project Manager this role is responsible for creating and meeting R&D project timeline activities assigned by the departmental director. This work involves building relationships with suppliers, interdepartmental teams, and franchisees. The Food Technologist component of this position will conduct performance and shelf life studies, ensuring products achieve consistent flavor, color, texture and performance attributes that are aligned with Brand practices. When applicable, work on existing and newly discovered ingredients to invent new formulas and concepts. This position will also manage nutritional data input, product specifications and ingredient kosher certification for all business brands and manufacturing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate directly and indirectly with project staff to ensure successful completion of a project.
  • Manage the design of the project documents to monitor project performance and data stored timelines.
  • Resolve, trace and escalate critical issues to minimize project risk factors.
  • Collect and collate test sales data.
  • Manage nutritional data for all new and existing products.
  • Conduct shelf life and operational feasibility trials with product development and Brand teams ensuring that new products meet brand quality parameters.
  • Create and implement a process for compiling/checking/approving, ingredient specifications and labelling.
  • Work with suppliers and franchisees on quality issues.
  • Support product development in the launch and implementation of new product and product improvements in the plant.
  • Assist in maintaining a spotless work environment.
  • Produce weekly project reports.
  • Communicate intensely with test partners.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • BA/BS in Food Science (or Equivalent work experience)
  • Working knowledge of nutritional software is a plus.
  • QSR, franchise and industrial manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Familiar with chemical analysis and techniques as related to food or must be comfortable to learn new techniques in formal and non-formal settings.
  • Data and product collection, data treatment, analysis, and recommendation.
  • Knowledgeable in Statistics and its application preferred.
  • Strong Computer skills (MS Office, excel, word, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to stand in a kitchen/production environment for lengthy durations.

Required experience:

  • Culinary or Food Nutrition Work experience: 1 year
