 Position Objective:


To provide analytical support to process, and ensure conformance to customer requirements for quality and food safety.
 
Principal Accountabilities:


• Final product approval; assurance of compliance to customer specifications.
• Daily assessment of process quality parameters and food safety and quality systems, including raw materials, calibration, maintenance, procedures, food safety, training, auditing, and oversight of analytical testing performed in operations control rooms.
• Data analysis, trend identification, troubleshooting, corrective action and communication with regard to processing data, final product and wastewater.
• Operate and maintain lab, control room and in-process instrumentation.
• Dispose of hazardous wastes (biological and chemical).
• Training of new chemists, analysts, operators, technicians and personnel from other functional areas.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned (ie. Process improvement projects, development and modification of QA procedures and documents, recruiting and interviewing of new employees and assisting other locations with process start-ups and projects.
 
Communication Methods to Accomplish Key Areas:


• Ability to prioritize and manage a large workload with multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to translate and communicate analytical data to technical and non-technical people.
• Ability to obtain samples from the process area and run analytical or microbiological tests.
• Use, calibrate and repair analytical instruments used to perform analyses.
• Use of SPC tools in problem solving and decision-making.
• Ability to relate technical knowledge to solve testing and process problems.
• Demonstrated ability of leadership, communication, motivation, interpersonal effectiveness, teamwork and successful completion of work.
 
Environment:


• Cargill QA labs are located in an industrial/processing plant environment. Our plants focus on employee engagement and innovation.
• This job involves physical activity which generally requires a moderate amount of exertion on a fairly regular basis – involving bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 50 pounds and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.  The work may also involve other exertions, conditions or exposures (i.e.- heat, cold, grain dust, etc.).

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:


• Pursuing or have earned a B.A., B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or Biochemistry OR 4 year science degree with a minimum 1 year general chemistry with 1 year lab, 1 year organic chemistry with 1 year lab and 2 upper level courses relating to Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or Biochemistry
• Degree completed by Summer 2017
• Ability to work in a 12 rotating shift schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer
• Must be able to complete essential functions of this job as outlined in the job description with or without reasonable accommodations
• Must be willing to relocate to any of the locations listed above

• Overall 3.0 GPA preferred
