This position assists the Director of Quality Assurance in ensuring that Kemps and its co-manufacturers maintain product quality standards, high levels of food safety, and compliance with all applicable Federal and State health regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Assists Director of Quality Assurance in developing and implementing Quality Management Systems to ensure that consistent and effective Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), and Food Safety Programs are practiced at every plant.
-Maintains and updates the corporate Quality Systems Manual (QSM) to ensure that policies are consistent with latest scientific advances and regulatory changes.
-Manages the food safety and quality aspects of suppliers and co-manufacturers. Coordinates the qualification and approval process, maintains supplier and co-manufacturer documents and databases, analyzes and responds to consumer and customer complaints regarding co-packer produced product, and requests and reviews CAPA when issues arise.
-Conducts on-site audits of Kemps plants and co-packer/vendor facilities to verify and validate that Food Safety and Quality programs are effectively implemented and followed in all plants
-Serves as the corporate coordinator for Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification for Kemps. Along with the on-site QA Manager, maintains GFSI certification at all Kemps plants.
-Serves as corporate liaison with strategic customers for the Quality Assurance department.
-Works collaboratively with Operations personnel. Develops team-based solutions to improve product quality, operational efficiency, and plant sanitation levels. Ensures food safety through the implementation of Food Safety and Quality processes.
-Uses a hands-on approach to solve critical or reoccurring food safety and quality problems. -Maintains Kemps' specifications system that includes finished product, in-process, and raw material specifications.
-Assists plants with training on Food Safety and Food Quality topics as needed.
-Performs other responsibilities as determined by business needs.
-Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Dairy Science or related curriculum plus 5 years of quality assurance and manufacturing experience in the food or dairy industry with at least 2 of those years in a management role
-Or 9-10 years of quality assurance and manufacturing experience in the food or dairy industry with at least 2 of those years in a management role
-Master's degree preferred
-Experience developing and implementing Quality Management Systems, and
-Experience conducting facility audits, finding gaps, and providing recommendations to improve facility food safety and quality programs, or advanced knowledge of quality assurance processes and methods, preferably in a dairy or food industry setting
-Familiarity with dairy manufacturing and microbiology
-Analytical ability and problem solving skills
-Working knowledge of fundamental quantitative analysis and statistical methods
-Technical writing skills to create policy documents and audit reports
