The R & D Technologist is responsible to help design, execute, and analyze all R&D and Continuous Improvements for all of Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA) products and will assist with all R & D and Continuous Improvements across Tillamook’s portfolio: Cheese, Butter, Whey, Cultured and Frozen Desserts.

Duties:

·         Helps develop superior dairy products and improve process outcomes.

·         Tests new products in test kitchen and develops specific processing methods for plant trials, and confers with process engineers, flavor experts, and packaging and marketing specialists to resolve problems. Must use Genesis nutritional calculations for formulations. 

·         Must be able to build strong relationships and efforts with product development, suppliers, vendors, supply chain, engineering, sensory, manufacturing, marketing, and outside R&D teams.

·         Translate market driven needs into technology aided product enhancements.

·         Schedule and attend trial runs and first production runs. Must report results to a variety of audiences and interpret outcomes, for best practice, quality, and food safety.  

·         Continually learning new skills and knowledge of the latest ingredients and technology that is applicable for yogurt, sour cream, and dairy products. It is expected that you continuously develop your competencies in these areas so that you are able to make significant contribution to projects in the areas of yogurt, sour cream, and sensory analysis.

·         Be confident, creative, and flexible in developing solutions to research challenges. This member must share a team-oriented approach, a dedication to delivering the highest quality work, and be strongly motivated to help the company reach success.

·         Operate with moderate supervision

·         Meticulous attention to detail

·         Decision-making skills, training skills, problem analysis skills, teamwork, creativity, the need to read, write, speak and understand the English language and the need to perform advanced math (analysis, statistics, significant data or number manipulation)

·         Physical ability to taste test all of our products

·         Work and communicate with all levels of organization.

·         Utilize computer based technology skills, particularly Genesis,  MS Word, Excel, and Access,

·         Analyze and problem solve.

·         Technical knowledge in area of responsibility

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a food science or dairy technology field -   M.S. a strong plus.

Experience in production and product development in dairy or related businesses desired.

Experience managing technology projects and multiple priorities

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Intermediate knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel

Math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize

Licenses and Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Physical Requirements:

Physical ability to taste test all of our products.  Must pass a pre-work physical test. Must be able to travel as needed.

Laboratory:  Shared work stations including testing equipment and computer terminals. Generally quiet, temperature controlled, well lighted. May include walking on uneven, slippery surfaces and encountering forklift traffic. Requires standing majority of shift, working with chemicals, walking on uneven, slippery surfaces, stooping, bending and crouching and climbing ladders.  Duties may include repetitive motion of hands and lifting up to 55 pounds.  

Position is base out of our Tillamook, Oregon Office. Fulltime position; Wage is DOE with excellent benefits.
