Position Description 

Position Description:

The Bay Shore R&D Team is currently seeking a Bakery Technologist. The incumbent will be responsible for the followingÖ

  • Design and execution of experiments using established procedures, interpret results and translate results into possible solutions.
  • Create formulas/processes that contribute to key product improvement, cost reductions, new product development/innovations, knowledge building or other technically based, business driven objectives.
  • Conduct plant trials needed to confirm lab results, test and or launch new product development initiatives, and/or implement cost reductions to drive business objectives.
  • Document and prepare technical reports regarding plant or lab test findings and next steps to guide other R&D team members as well as other departments as needed.
  • Prepare specifications and process operating guides for product development and ensure flow of documentation is communicated to those who have a need to know.
  • Deal effectively and professionally with outside ingredient suppliers to meet R&D objectives (keeping purchasing informed).
  • Carry out those programs laid out by designated supervisors under authority of the Director of Product Development within parameters of time and cost, etc.
  • Lead in special projects concerning products, processes, equipment, and facility concepts and design.
  • Communicate effectively with R&D members of the product development team as well as other cross-functional teams both written and orally.
  • Prepare and present ideas, projects, concepts and other business related activity in a clear concise manner to management or other internal groups in a meeting setting.
  • Travel to BBU technical facilities and co-packers independently and effectively accomplish R&D objectives and interface professionally with representatives of the same.

Position Requirements 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelorís degree in Bakery or Food Science Technology or Grain Science.
  • Requires 3 years of experience with Masterís degree or 5 years of experience with Bachelorís as a Food Scientist or Bakery Technologist in Bakery or Food Manufacturing setting.
  • Previous experience with collaborating on recipe development or product quality improvement.
  • MS Power Point, Word and Excel.
  • At least 1 of the required years of experience to include Plant experience in bakery products.
  • Monitoring quality systems and providing recommendations.
  • Past experience establishing food safety and traceability procedures ranging from raw material receiving to the finished product.
  • Requires 30% domestic travel.
