Blue Apron is currently seeking a passionate and detail-oriented individual to develop, manage and expand our Food Safety Programs. We are seeking a versatile leader who can lead the team responsible for Food Safety from one end to the other end of our unique supply chain. This is someone with expertise in all food safety matters. This individual will help to develop and maintain working relationships with relevant regulatory agencies, serving as a highly-regarded counterpart on all food safety, quality and regulatory matters.

Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee implementation of Food Safety Program, including establishing additional policies and procedures, monitoring adherence, reporting on and assessing performance, and identifying opportunities for improvement.  
  • Develop and maintain the Food Safety Management Program and all other relevant policies and documentation (e.g., HACCP, recalls), in collaboration with Legal, Fulfillment, Operations and other departments, including HACCP, recall policies and procedures.
  • Update leadership on food safety and compliance standards, including expectations for microbiological performance, foreign material control, regulatory compliance, and HACCP programs.
  • Work directly with Fulfillment, Operations, Procurement, Logistics and other departments to develop, implement and improve food safety and compliance programs and procedures
  • Deliver thorough, timely and insightful reports on food safety to senior leaders, based on internal and external data, audits and assessments
  • Ensure BA and all partners in our supply chain comply with all food safety expectations and requirements.
  • Anticipate problems and establish practices to prevent and mitigate risks
  • Rapidly and effectively address any food safety and compliance issues that arise.
  • Manage investigations, analyses and reporting of food safety issues, including developing and implementing (CAPA plans where needed). Identify root causes and take necessary actions to prevent recurrence
  • Develop, manage and execute network- wide traceability exercises.
  • Manage communications with regulatory bodies where appropriate
  • Conduct regular as well as unannounced audits and tests at relevant points in the supply chain, relying on BA team members as well as external experts. Report on audits and tests, take corrective actions where necessary, recommend improvements and ensure their implementation

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of Food Safety experience, primarily within food manufacturing. Must include food safety matters, corporate regulatory work, and direct experience working in a plant. Experience with produce required.
  • Bachelorís degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Subject matter expert on food safety, audit regulations, trends, tools and programs
  • Specific knowledge and direct experience in ensuring adherence with FDA and USDA regulations, as well as International Regulations
  • Advanced HACCP, and Seafood HACCP Certifications
  • Ideal candidate will be PCQI trained
  • Lead SQF Auditor, or Lead Auditor in any other GFSI auditing schemes
  • Excellent quantitative/analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally
