Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. is looking for a Quality Manager of Contract Manufacturing to lead a segment of the North American Co-pack Quality Network on the Global Partner Quality team.  The position is based in Lakeville, MA; full relocation included.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality and technical leadership, directions and resources to the Quality and Food Safety Network with the Contract Manufacturing, Licensing and Strategic Alliance Partnerships.  Responsible for the development and maintenance of the contract manufacturing Quality operation manual and standards.
  • Manage contract manufacturers/licensees/alliance partnersí food safety and quality approval process for consistency across all lines.  Maintain Quality operating standards, develop and assist with technical change processes and conduct Quality Reviews with contract manufacturers as necessary.
  • Provide technical support during commissionings of new products, packages, changes in formulas, etc.
  • Define food safety and quality testing requirements and compliance guidelines for partners.  Ensure that Quality monitoring systems and documentation are used at the contract manufacturers that demonstrate compliance to specifications over time (e.g. Positive Release and HACCP programs).
  • Support routine quality activities such as supplier complaints; lot and code tracing; monitor holds; review plant problems; issue new formulas and coordinate laboratory cross checks with Corporate Quality.
  • Coordinate risk analysis and corrective actions of food safety incidents (Class I, II, III) with plant management and their recall committee.
  • Design, implement and manage programs, databases, and/or policies to track performance and management risk.  Provide insight and support in the development and implementation of appropriate plant KPIs for each partner facility.
  • Enforce 3rd party and GFSI certification requirements in the network.
  • Conduct regular on-site inspections of contract manufacturing locations to ensure GMP and other standards or guidelines set forth in Ocean Sprayís Production and Quality Manual are being applied and product being produced for Ocean Spray meets the specifications.
  • Develop improvement strategies along with the Senior Manager of Global Partner Quality to help meet quality and food safety objectives.  Work with Corporate resources, suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and contract manufacturers to identify process improvements and other cost optimization opportunities.


Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masterís Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or Food Science.
  • 5-7 years quality experience in food and beverage industry with emphasis on development, training, auditing, HACCP plan development and validation, sanitation programs, regulatory compliance, specification adherence, and other food safety and quality programs with co-packers, licensing and strategic alliance partners.
  • Experience in the food industry plant environment with an understanding of manufacturing process.
  • Knowledge and understanding of FDA requirements for processing and packaging of food and beverages.
  • Good computer skills, Word, Excel, and preferably working knowledge of SAP. Good SPC and Statistical Data Analysis skills.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to influence and provide directions, analyze and resolve problems, improve processes and handle conflicting priorities.
  • HACCP certified; Juice HACCP, GFSI (e.g. SQF) certification and experience preferred.
