Job Title: Global Chocolate Associate Scientist

Job Purpose/Overview

This role serves to drive growth, efficiency and quality through the execution of GCS&T programs focused on raw material, chocolate, and process development leveraging Global Standard Practices.

Provides expertise and hands on pilot skills within a defined area in order to execute tactical activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Lead projects or components of projects involved in chocolate, raw material and process development.

• Execute factory trials to validate chocolates, raw materials, and process technologies under the direction of a project lead.

• Comfort running pilot plant equipment, developing deep expertise (lead user), and championing safety.

• Carry out quality plans throughout the pipeline process – from raw materials through process and shelf life of finished products

• Support recipe, raw material and process specifications for global/regional units to ensure quality and scale.

• Track origin cocoa bean quality data, chocolate metrics, and process conditions to analyze trends and provide insights/root cause analysis.

• Leverages chocolate, raw material, and process Global Standard Practices.

• Supports content for chocolate, raw materials, and process functional competency programs (i.e., Chocolate School, Peanut School).

• Works within defined budget

Ensure proper safety practices are followed throughout all testing scenarios pilot and production scale.

Effective at building collaborative relationships. 

Follows defined ways of working on how to conduct a research and development project.

Practices scientific rigor and attention to detail when executing fundamental and applied research.

Ability to document, organize and summarize project results through verbal and written communication.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple activities within a project framework.

Ability to work across geographies and teams within a given timeline.

Effective communication (written and oral) with global teams through written, virtual, and face to face interactions – available to travel regionally and globally and connect after business hours.

Job Specifications/Qualifications

1. Education & Professional Qualification

• Food Science, agricultural science or equivalent BS degree preferred.  Non-related degree and non-degree applicants considered with applicable technical experience in mfg., or food industry (>5 years preferred).

2. Knowledge/Experience

• Demonstration of project responsibility with history of successful project completions.

• Understands scientific research methodologies and principles.

• Applies working knowledge of food science, process engr., and GMP’s when operating pilot and lab equipment to perform detailed, at times repetitive, pilot and laboratory testing.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and maintain positive working relationships (HPT behaviors)

• Solid math, written and communication skills.   Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes).

• Ability to learn area specific software (Radar, SAP, MindManager, etc.)

• Flexible to changing priorities/timelines.  Ability to work independently and free from unplanned support.

• Available occasionally by TC/VC beyond day shift for communications with Global sites.

• Travel to other Mars sites and vendors required.  (Up to 10%, which may include international travel).
