The Challenge

The Lab Technician Forms R&D prepares and evaluates prototypes or samples of stabilized LC-PUFA (originating from fish or algal oils) formulations in order to assess their suitability for application by DNP’s customers in specific end uses.

This position works closely with R&D, Technical Marketing, Innovation, Venturing, internal project teams and with external strategic partners to develop new technologies to achieve DNP’s business goals. To this end, validation experiments and project work are carried out locally focusing predominantly on LC-PUFA Forms development or evaluation. Success depends on effective collaboration within the project team within a highly cross-functional environment enabling rational technology evaluation resulting in new or improved product launches.

The Position

Performs experiments focused on emulsification and microencapsulation of LC-PUFA product types and occasionally other relevant DNP ingredients, using standard techniques and equipment.

Evaluates new product forms (powders, granules etc.) within the framework of developmental projects. This comprises assessment of properties and functioning of solid or emulsion dosage forms and production of samples and prototypes.

Collaborates in internal and external project teams, consisting of international and cross-functional members.

Assists during third party sampling, prototyping or scale up experiments and interacts with Analytical Chemistry, Sensory Science and Technical Marketing departments for effective project execution.

May provide technical factory support in case of new product introductions, process improvement or trouble shooting.

Provides support for new product launches and inquiries from internal and external customers.

Reports results in clear concise memos and requires strong communication skills.

Ability to analyze complex science or technology and translate into practical innovation opportunities.

Ability to translate scientific questions into effective experimental design and project work stream plans in order to validate or falsify work hypotheses.

Enjoys working in a dynamic, international and culturally diverse organization

Prepared to travel nationally and occasionally internationally.

The Ideal

  • BSc in Physical Chemistry, Food Science & Technology, Particle Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in industrial R&D.
  • Experience in particle engineering, colloids science or formulation development is an advantage.
  • Excellent experimental skills in the preparation and analysis of microencapsulates and emulsions.
  • Team player with good oral and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Independent, enthusiastic and pragmatic hands-on person that gets the job done.
  • Experience in LC-PUFA handling, stability testing and chemical modification is an advantage.
