Cargill Corn Milling North America is a manufacturer of value-added corn, sugar and health based products serving the Food, Feed and Fermentation segments. From facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas, we provide a wide variety of products and services including high fructose corn syrup, corn syrups, dextrose syrups and sucrose that are used in an array of beverage, brewing, confectionery, food and pharmaceutical applications. We provide health and sweetness promoting ingredients for the food and dietary supplement industries worldwide. Position Purpose

The Product Manager, Specialty Carbohydrates is responsible for the strategy and execution of product line activities across a product line portfolio in the areas of strategy, analytics and planning, execution and measures, P&L management, client interaction and business partnership, people, resource, and budget management. 


Principal Accountabilities

40% P&L Management - Leverages a cross-functional team to achieve specialty carbohydrate product line growth and profitability goals on a global basis.  Independently manages commercial ownership and P&L responsibilities for a single product line (portfolio) area.  Actively collaborates with procurement and scheduling at facilities to ensure production supply meets customer demand.  Contributes to the identification and negotiates partnerships with key vendors; may have strategic vendor relationship management responsibilities.  Leads profitability for products within a product line, including maximizing revenue while reducing costs to meet Go-to-Market Strategy

25% Client Interaction and Business Partnership - Owns and manages key strategic partner and customer relationships.  Directs rollout of marketing plans by collaborating with cross-functional personnel and with others on the marketing team (Communications, Analytics, etc.) to deliver on assigned tasks.  Develops product line strategy and engages Business Unit senior management of product line business to secure resources and funding to support strategy.  Leads alignment of action to overall strategy for a market opportunity space within a product line to manage marketing activities. 

20% Strategy, Analytics and Planning - With little oversight, responsible for developing the product line strategy and creating growth plans for a product line portfolio in alignment with broader organization goals.  Utilizes deep market and customer expertise to identify opportunities for new product development and existing product enhancements, understanding both customers’ needs and competitive offerings.  Maintains deep product expertise, including features/functionality, value propositions, competitive positions and market dynamics.

15% People, Resource and Budget Management - Is responsible for budget, reporting key performance metrics and analysis and reporting of ROI.  Partner with sales and marketing areas to ensure appropriate pipeline development of new opportunities.  Coordinate with technology leadership on product enhancements including estimates of potential revenues/costs of projects. Work with specialists to develop intellectual property strategy for products that maximizes product life cycle.



Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Ability to travel up to 25%, as needed

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in business development/product development/product management and/or product marketing in a business-to-business setting.

• Ability to understand supply and demand and effect on pricing.

• Strong strategic thinker.

• Strong influencing skills and ability to lead a non-embedded, cross functional product line team.

• Strong price and contract negotiation skills.

• Ability to read, analyze, and effectively develop and present information to top management, public groups, and customers.

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

• Ability to compose a business plan and work with financial concepts.

• Ability to develop strategy for responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

• Microsoft Office Suite experience.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.

• Proven business partnering skills.


Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Nutrition/Food Science, Biology, Biochemistry or Chemical engineering.

Masters Degree in Business (MBA).
