Currently, Meijer is looking for a Quality Assurance & Food Safety Unit Manager. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for designing, implementing and the oversight of quality food safety and regulatory compliance programs related to Meijer manufactured products. This includes issues relating to product quality, allergens, microbiological, foreign material, traceability and/or other food safety and regulatory compliance concerns including practicing 200% Safety Accountability (self and others).


Key responsibilities include:

           Reducing variation and optimizing quality of all Meijer brand products and assisting product development team as necessary to support their efforts

 

           Assisting with design and development of quality programs in order to achieve company goals regarding maintaining Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Level 3, PLEX and license compliance

 

           Managing and overseeing maintenance of food quality and safety programs including: Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), Environmental Monitoring, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), Allergens

 

           Serving as primary onsite liaison between Meijer and the various regulatory agencies that inspect operations at the facility including but not limited to: local, state and federal agencies

 

           Staying current on local, state and federal regulations related to products produced at the facility

 

           Serving as quality liaison with bulk product sales customers ensuring customer service

 

           Reviewing customer/store complaints and implementing corrective activities to reduce occurrences

 

           Overseeing training and management of plant sanitation and sampling programs

 

           Overseeing the physical, microbial and chemical testing conducted by quality staff

 

           Working and interacting on a daily basis with plant and corporate management on projects affecting quality, food safety and efficiencies

 

           Creating, monitoring and working within QA department budgetary guidelines

 

           Serving as Lead for regulatory inspections/training and instructing production management staff

Qualifications

        Bachelor of Food Science, Microbiology or a related discipline preferred

        Minimum of 3 years of quality assurance supervisory experience within a food manufacturing environment, preferably diary related

        Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel

        Able to analyze data and information and make effective and timely decisions

        Strong problem solving skills, time management and communication skills

        Detail oriented and resourceful

        Strong communication skills, including both verbal and written methods.

        Able to work efficiently and effectively in both an independent and team environment

        Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF) certification recommended

        Able to multitask and work well under pressure

        Reliable and consistent attendance required
