Technical Services Technologist (Contractor)
& Development (Food/Beverage) | Emeryville, CA, United States

consumer products company in the food industry. Plum, PBC is looking to add a
contracted R&D Technical Services Technologist to our growing team,
reporting to the Sr. R&D Manager. This is a great opportunity for
someone who is eager to learn and grow with our company.
The R&D Technical Services Technologist will have
accountability for creating and managing R&D documentation systems that
support product and packaging development through managing information
transfers from benchtop to commercialization. This role will also help
support ongoing ingredient composition and formula composition reviews
through close interaction with our suppliers and Plum Regulatory. Strong communication
is needed, as this role will interact often with suppliers, manufacturing
locations, and the cross-functional technical teams. Assignments are of
moderate complexity and technical risk that could be a part of a larger
effort and may be a part of a larger multidisciplinary team.
- Support Product & Package
development team in establishing analytical specs, based on data
analysis, and identify opportunities for improvement
- Ensure integrity of Genesis
ingredient database through development of supplier interface tool to
aid in efficient information gathering for new and existing ingredients
- Assess viability of supplier
information as it relates to ingredient composition, nutrition values,
- Manage updates to product formulation
and labeling system (Genesis) with guidance from Plum Regulatory,
including ingredient composition & nutrition updates from suppliers,
allergen profiles from QA, and formula composition updates as requested
by Product Development
- Support development of data
interfaces between existing and future systems
- Support ongoing analytical
needs via close interaction with Campbell Soup and outside labs
- Support on-going maintenance of
supply chain quality management system (GSQA) and resources
planning-data integration system (SAP)
- Leverage system knowledge to
organize and streamline different types of technical documentation for
enhanced department efficiency
- Coach new R&D users on best
practices of Genesis, GSQA and SAP systems
- Communicate closely with Packaging,
Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, QA, and Marketing to maintain
up-to-date project information and priorities
- Assist in the basic research of
trends and ingredients
- Minimum 1-4 years in the
- BS Degree in Food Science or
- Basic understanding of FDA and
USDA regulations, and ideally some experience with Organic and Kosher
- Detail oriented, strong
organizational and communication skills with experience working in
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS
Word, MS Excel, and Genesis
- Preferred working knowledge of Optiva
