Position Summary: Under direct supervision researches, conducts experiments, gathers data, develops preliminary findings and prepares written reports for the development of new products beginning at conception through successful commercialization.  Follows established protocols and work plans utilizing appropriate methods, tests and procedures for testing. Assists in development of project timelines, creating technical proposals and reports, that support recommendations.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross functional team to formulate and execute the development from benchtop to production scale for both new products and product improvements.  This would include cost savings initiatives, flavor optimization, ingredient statement matching, nutritional profile matching, etc.
  • Assist in identification and approval of potential new ingredient and manufacturing suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for competitive market advantage.
  • Provide judgment and experience to assure an appropriate level of technical common sense and research discipline are being employed and utilized in business decisions.
  • Develops a close functional relationship with team to review projects, contribute information, and provide suggestions regarding product-processing requirements.
  • Contributes guidance and suggestions early in the product development process that will improve delivery of functional product designs.
  • Participates in pilot plant and production plant testing with cross functional team.
  • Prepares recommended manufacturing procedures and quality measures for use scaling up product for plant production.
  • Provides technical support for commissioning and start-up operations.
  • Revises and troubleshoots the process as needed to ensure successful production of products.
  • Prepares specs and compiles associated quality control measures as applicable.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records documenting the development process.
  • Plan, prioritize, and complete tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Complete project objectives under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Learn and utilize on-line formulation, ingredient, and specification database systems.
  • Support other functional groups in development and execution of continuous improvement to meet the business objectives.
  • Follow all site food safety, GMP, work safety and environmental requirements.

 

Position Requirements:

  • BS in Food Science or related field (Food Safety & Quality/Food Engineering) required.
  • 1 year of experience in a related industry required; Snack Nuts, Snack Mix, and/or Baked Snack applications preferred.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Clear, concise, written and verbal communication.
  • Pro-active self-starter, willing to accept responsibility for business tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment to achieve the desired results.
  • May travel up to 40% of time.  Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible ConAgra Foods, Inc. representative.

Physical Requirements:

  • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Walking and/or standing on various surface types
  • Lifting (ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a sporadic basis)
  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders
  • Pushing/pulling
  • Cramped/confined space
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, fumes, smoke, and/or slippery conditions
  • Must not be allergic or sensitive to Peanut or Tree Nuts
  • Frequent bending and/or crawling; must be able to move safely and freely around machinery
  • Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to 6 hours as needed
