Summary 

Position is responsible for developing new concepts, processes, products, and flavors.  Position will also require development and implementation of analytical and research methodologies and procedures to develop new products and flavors from concept through commercialization.  Position manages multiple complex assignments including existing product lines and conducts in depth technical experiments to verify product acceptance, stability, reproducibility, and consumer acceptance.

 

Accountabilities 

The following are essential job accountabilities:

 

        Works independently to research the feasibility, functionality, and consumer acceptance of new ingredients, processes, and products

        Applies advanced knowledge and skills to prepare complex experiments of new and existing technologies

        Provides ongoing technical support to all functional areas as to product viability, consistency and ongoing reproducibility

        Assesses and makes recommendations on problems and opportunities of diverse natures while referring the most complicated problems to higher levels

        Documents findings, formulas, processes and supports the development of specifications

        Contributes to the coordination and facilitation of technical development of Pilot Plant personnel and procedures

        Develops product improvement and cost reduction formulas, processes, and consumer acceptance testing

        Manages technical aspects of product lines and meets with representatives of partner companies and suppliers

        Develops cost estimates for some large projects

        Will serve as a technical expert on Company committees

Qualifications

 

Specifications 

        Good understanding of advanced scientific methods and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult technical problems

        Proficient in Food Science technologies

        A thorough understanding of ice cream manufacturing including formulation, processing, equipment, manufacturing capability, and product costs

        Excellent project management skills and an ability to work independently or manage others on multiple projects

        Ability to develop, conduct, and confirm complex experiments

        Proven understanding of ice cream business and how it is tied to corporate goals

        Excellent problem solving skills

        Excellent computer skills

        Strong ability to articulate advanced technologies to other functional groups

        Highly skilled in attention to details

        A thorough awareness of technical advances in the food and ice cream industries

 Education/Experience 

        Highly developed practical ice cream development skills and 10-15 years of experience in the food industry

        BS in Food Science or related field with 8 or more years of food industry experience

        MS in Food Science or related field with 6-8 years of food industry experience

        Ph.D. in Food Science or related field with 4 or more years of food industry experience
