TITLE

Scientist, R&D Packaging – Coffee

LOCATION

Orrville, OH (Greater Cleveland area)

REPORTS TO

Senior Manager, Research and Development - Coffee

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Lead package development process for new product and/or packaging projects, collaborating with Products Research, Marketing Services, Product Development, Brand Management, Purchasing, Manufacturing, external design agencies and suppliers and any additional required functional disciplines

·        Lead the Technical Readiness process for package focused projects and/or collaborate with technical readiness leaders on other projects to provide required packaging data and support

·        Define and conduct package development testing to ensure technical readiness for production, distribution, and consumer use

·        Design and execute package qualifications for blow molded containers and injection molded parts with suppliers and coffee production plants

·        Provide innovative ideas leading to the application of new packaging technologies and solving packaging related challenges

·        Plan, execute, analyze and summarize plant trials working closely with manufacturing and site technical resources

·        Develop performance based specifications for all new packaging materials

·        Support packaging technical support organization as needed to resolve packaging supply chain or production technical issues

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education

·        A Bachelor’s degree in a Packaging related field is required (or a degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or other technical degree with relevant package development or technical support experience will be considered)

Experience

·        5 or more years of package development experience is required

·        Experience with Rigid Packaging technologies (Blow molding and Injection molding) is preferred

·        Experience or exposure to packing line machinery and equipment such as flexible pouch and bagging, rigid filling, cartoning, case packing, aseptic, retort, etc. is strongly preferred 

Other

·        Proven technical mastery in package development or packaging technical support is required, preferably with food packaging experience

·        Familiarity with other packaging materials, technologies, and processes is desirable

·        Experience with package development process and testing from concept to implementation or packaging technical support solutions

·        Mastery of basic package qualification test procedures

·        Ability to collaborate and work across multi-functional and discipline boundaries in a dynamic project environment

·        Project management experience would be highly valued for this role, as the individual will manage costs, schedules and resources for the work

·        Experience conducting plant trials is very beneficial

·        Ability to travel up to 20% of your work schedule is required
