Simmering Soup Kitchen, LLC has an immediate opening for a full time Quality Manager to lead our Quality and Food Safety department.

Simmering Soup is a growing food processing business with a production facility located in Midtown Atlanta. We produce refrigerated entrees, soups, salads, sandwiches and wraps for discerning customers in the grocery and food service sectors. We have an extensive product line that is constantly changing and expanding, and an expanding customer base.

We are part of the Handmade Real Foods group of companies with facilities in California, Washington, Rhode Island, Georgia, and Texas, and this position will work closely with counter parts in our other facilities. The Quality Manager will report to the Atlanta Plant Manager but will receive direction and support from the VP of Quality and Food Safety, who is based in Los Angeles, California.

In Atlanta we are a small management team supporting a rapidly growing business. We are all hands on managers, rolling up our sleeves and pitching in when itís required, and we need our newest team member to share that mindset. The successful candidate will be someone who divides their time between the production area and warehouse areas and the office.


  • Manage the Quality and Food Safety Program, making improvements, modifying GMPs as necessary and ensuring enforcement of GMPs and adherence to the program
  • Manage the Quality and Food Safety department (Quality Manager and QC Technicians), contributing to the development and training of department employees
  • Implement, maintain and enforce the necessary programs to ensure that our products meet or exceed all food safety standards as established by our customs, state and federal regulatory agencies and relevant industry accreditation
  • Work with the operations team to ensure that quality and food safety standards are met consistently, and that our finished products are consistent to approved product specifications
  • Liaise with customers, ensuring that all concerns, questions and / or new ideas are discussed and responded to quickly and effectively
  • Liaise with government inspectors, including on site USDA inspector, ensuring that concerns are appropriately addressed
  • Internal auditor and point of contact for external audits; ensuring that the facility is audit ready and that any non-conformances or opportunities for improvement that are raised by third party auditors are promptly addressed
  • Investigate, report, and respond to, all customer complaints; and implement corrective action where appropriate
  • Review and update site specific operational procedures with an aim to improve current methods and practices, and optimize the product and process interface

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Food Science or Life Science or higher
  • Knowledge of microbiological and chemical analysis preferred
  • Minimum of seven yearsí experience in food manufacturing, with roles of increasing responsibility. Experience working with ready to eat products in a BRC / SQF certified facility is required.
  • Experience in Quality and Food Safety at the management level is required
  • Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to research, network, and gather information and resources to source materials.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write effectively in English.
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft office)
