JOB TITLE: Research and Development Chef 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Research and Development Chef will work as part of the Research and Development team to create and launch new products, maintain and reformulate existing products, develop and maintain food product labels and packaging, and provide support and assistance to production and quality control operations. 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS 

Accountable and Reports to: Research and Development Director 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Product development activities extending from concept ideation to commercialization
  • Develop, maintain, and verify product formulations and production procedures
  • Assist in the development, maintenance and distribution of product specifications for D&D finished goods
  • Provide culinary guidance throughout the commercialization process for new and reformulated products.
  • Reformulate existing products to meet cost, nutrition and labeling objectives.
  • Marketing activities to promote D&D Foods products.
  • Provide weekly project status reports to management.
  • Ingredient sourcing and auditing to support the qualification of new suppliers:

  Benchtop sample preparation

  Conduct product cuttings to evaluate ingredients

  Gather and organize paperwork for new ingredients.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Organize paper and electronic documents associated with ingredient label audits
  • Provide support and assistance to production operations as needed
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • The duties of this position are performed primarily in a kitchen or office setting with frequent plant and warehouse exposure
  • Frequent deadlines exist while handling multiple tasks

EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM JOB 

Kitchen equipment, personal computer, office telephone system, photo copier/scanner, fax machine, camera 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB 

  • Ability to multi-task with strong prioritization and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, able to make culinary presentation and manage ideation meetings with cross-functional teams
  • Understand the need for and maintain confidentiality

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB 

  • Bachelor of Science preferred - Culinology, Food Science, Nutrition or related 
  • Associates of Applied Science in Culinary Arts 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB 

  • Experience in food manufacturing and/or retail food service
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
