Summary:

Director of Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory Affairs will be responsible for and lead all food safety, quality & regulatory (FSQR) activities across Olam Spice & Vegetable Ingredients globally. Directs development and management of FSQR systems in the business including: continuous improvement of FSQR processes and systems, development & implementation of FSQR policies, BRC audits & certifications, ensuring connectivity and collaboration between business unit functions, directing management of overall external FSQR environment including customer, supplier, regulatory interfaces for the business unit.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Directs central food safety, quality & regulatory organization across all global locations and manufacturing facilities for the business unit and ensure interpretation and implementation of FSQR policies, regulatory, customer & supplier standards.
  • Responsible to ensure connectivity & collaboration between FSQR functions across all manufacturing facilities and mediate and resolve all FSQA issues in the business.
  • Lead the BU crisis management team in the event of a food safety incident.
  • Monitor FDA/EU/USDA regulatory activities and plant compliance with regulatory standards and act as a liaison for all manufacturing locations, ensuring regulatory compliance within the business unit.
  • Build effective external partnerships with customers. Acts as the customer interface for the BU to review product performance, responds to complaints & questions and provide proactive & preventive corrective actions where required.
  • Build effective internal partnerships with manufacturing operations to ensure customer expectations are met on food safety & quality parameters.
  • Develop, implement & assess processes/systems directs implementation of all FSQR, specifications and management of change systems across BU drives continuous improvement.
  • Provide input to BU leadership related to capital needs to maintain food safety leadership position in the industry.
  • Provide internal & external leadership & visibility on food safety & quality issues. Interface with BU leadership team in areas which are of critical concern to the BU on FSQR affairs.
  • Identify & share best practices in executing of FSQR programs across the globe through standardization of policies, standards & SOPs.
  • Maintain high level engagement with regulatory issues within the industry & provide information both internally & externally as required for the BU.
  • Lead both internal & external compliance issues by demonstrated leadership and process control management skill and ability to develop team members.
  • International experience with customers & specific food regulations in EU & Japan

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Advanced degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemical/Biological sciences or related fields.
  • 10-15 years of experience in management of Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory function across a business unit.
  • Advanced knowledge of Food Laws & Regulations – staying up-to-date on the regulatory developments.
  • Advanced HACCP knowledge and implementation – Applies HACCP to identify food safety hazards and provides solutions to mitigate risks through a “preventive” approach.
  • Advanced risk assessment skills through managing audit protocols, root cause analysis, complaint trend analysis and deep insight into manufacturing operations within the business.
  • Advanced knowledge of GFSI audit protocols such as BRC/SQF, documentation, document management and interface with external auditors & customer audit programs.
  • Intermediate project management skills – applies a structured, disciplined approach to planning, administering & completing projects within FSQR issues.
  • Intermediate product information/documentation knowledge working with innovation team.
  • Understanding of statistical process controls & data based risk assessment or problem solving techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team collaboration competencies and ability to implement quality systems through training the team within IQ and manufacturing units as required.
  • Supplier quality assurance – identifies & addresses supplier quality issues to raw materials, packaging materials & ingredients to manufacturing unit in collaboration with purchasing/ supply chain team.
  • Knowledge of SAP applications, traceability systems within in QM module will be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good understanding of cultural differences in approach to quality systems and the impact to achieving FSQR goals.
  • Self-directed, forward thinking and ability to make recommendations with limited information / data.
  • Strong presentation skills with customers both internal and external
  • Ability to represent BU with trade associations, and a spokesman for the BU with respect to Food Safety & Quality areas.
  • International & Domestic travel up to 25% of the time
  • Multilingual could be an advantage
