Food/Pharmaceutical Scientist

Senopsys is a specialty services consulting firm dedicated to the development of palatable drug products. The company works to optimize the taste of investigational and marketed drug products for pharmaceutical, biotech and drug delivery companies. Senopsys has an opening for a laboratory technologist to support continued growth.

The selected candidate will report to the Technical Director and will be responsible for formulating liquid and solid drug prototype formulations, conducting sensory (taste) analysis, and supporting overall technical operations. The selected candidate will have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and be able to work with minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare prototype liquid and powder formulations in accordance with established quality systems – manuals, SOPs and batch records.
  • Learn and master flavor system development process – a strong interest in cooking is a success indicator.
  • Participate in taste assessment of investigational and marketed drug products under Good Clinical Practice (products are tasted and not ingested).
  • Data entry, analysis and report generation.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and records according to company standards.
  • Manage ingredient, drug product and laboratory supply inventories.
  • Instrument maintenance and calibration.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary laboratory.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science or related field with some experience in a formulation development environment.
  • Knowledge of excipient/ingredient functionality – sweeteners, solvents, preservatives, flavors, hydrocolloids, suspending agents.
  • Sensory analysis experience preferred but company will train in its methods.
  • Normal acuity of taste and smell – tested at time of application.
  • Medically fit to participate in taste evaluations of drug products based on a pre-employment physical, including clinical tests (blood and urine), EKG.
  • Computer skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet research.
  • Good oral and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
