Based at our Greenwood Village Home Office, you will manage restaurant food safety programs to provide support and guidance to restaurants and RODs in the areas of food safety and sanitation to improve and drive the Red Robin food safety culture. You will also work with Red Robin's third party auditing partner and Food Safety/QA team to ensure consistency among audits and act as Red Robin's advocate during interaction with regulatory agencies (local health departments, FDA, USDA, DOA, CFIA).

You will be responsible for continuously improving and strengthening food safety at Red Robin by collaborating with internal teams and external resources.

Duties Include:

  • Work cross-functionally with food safety/QA, food & beverage, culinary, operations, implementation, and facilities teams as a food safety expert to provide effective and efficient food safety support against enterprise objectives and timelines
  • Contribute and assist in the development, evaluation, improvement, and implementation of Red Robin's food safety policies, procedures, standards, and manuals
  • Partner with operations teams to support lower performing restaurants by reviewing restaurants, providing guidance, and follow up around food safety and sanitation practices
  • Maintain and review food safety and sanitation trends at the restaurant level and the regional level to provide support and implement process improvements
  • Apply restaurant HACCP principles to recipes, processes and procedures to identify risks and develop methods to reduce risks
  • Assist QA team with development of HACCP or HACCP-based programs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions to assure that restaurant practices and store designs meet local health regulations
  • Monitor and provide training and technical expertise for Red Robin's internal food safety auditing program
  • Assist in building SOPs for all restaurant processes and procedures such as cleaning and sanitation, chemical handling, and food handling
  • Maintain and review pest reports at the restaurant level and provide support and guidance
  • Assist in managing minor crisis situations including foodborne illness escalations, foreign object complaints, allergic reactions, and water, sewage, and fire emergency events
  • Research food safety innovation and implement technology improvements to ensure and maximize food safety
  • Provide assistance to stores for Certified Manager Food Safety Training
  • Collect, review, and evaluate scientific data to make recommendations for food safety process improvements
  • Provide periodic reporting on key food safety and sanitation indicators including pest management, foodborne illness, health department reports, etc.
  • Actively participate with food safety and regulatory associations on behalf of Red Robin


  • 5+ years of restaurant food safety, restaurant health inspection, or restaurant food safety auditing experience
  • Bachelor's degree with technical background in Environmental Health, Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or food safety related course of study or equivalent experience.
  • Strong applied knowledge of restaurant food safety and competent with knowledge of up-to-date food safety practices
  • Applied knowledge of HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, FDA and all other applicable State and Local health and food safety codes and the principles behind these requirements affecting  restaurants
  • Knowledge of restaurant operations from a food safety perspective
  • Ability to investigate food safety and quality complaints
  • Ability to manage product recalls, foodborne illness situations, and interface with regulatory authorities (health departments, FDA, USDA, and CDC). 
  • Knowledge of food microbiology
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and must be able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel, up to 40%.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused during crisis situations.
  • Be able to use industry resources to seek knowledge and solve problems.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams to drive solutions
  • Experience with databases and dashboards preferred
