Norpac Fisheries Export is seeking a Food Safety & Quality Specialist with the skills and enthusiasm to join the dynamic team at our Honolulu-based operations. We are seeking a highly-motivated individual to assist with Workplace Safety, Food Safety, and Food Quality Programs. The successful candidate must have a solid foundation in science and education/experience with food processing and food safety.

Core duties include:

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of workplace safety, food safety, food quality programs that meet and/or exceed standards set by federal agencies (FDA, NOAA, HIDOH, etc.) and 3rd party standard-bearers (SQF, BRC, etc.).
  • Conducting workplace safety and food safety/quality training programs for seafood processing plant personnel.
  • Monitoring workplace safety, plant sanitation, food safety and product quality across operations through daily inspections, review of food safety/quality paperwork, sample collections (environmental and product), and running in-house tests (ATP, allergen, etc.).
  • Assisting with supplier and product evaluations and approval.
  • Working with production employees on food safety and quality-related parameters including specifications, inspections, and problem resolution to ensure all products are safe and wholesome.
  • Assisting with audits and audit preparations.

Required Education and Skills:

  • Bachelorís degree from an accredited university or college in the biological sciences (biology, agriculture, food service, food safety, etc.).
  • Strong observational skills, likes/good at detail-oriented work, and effective in a team-oriented environment.
  • Able to multi-task in fast-paced environment, working to document and analyze large amounts of data, decipher risks, and act on a timely and effective basis.
  • Good computer, word processing, graphical presentation, data processing, and information system skills.
  • Experience with chemical/microbiological laboratory analysis would be advantageous.
  • Knowledgeable with HACCP, food safety, food quality and employee safety programs. Successful candidates must complete associated training programs and maintain associated certifications including Seafood HACCP.
