Job Summary

Assists in the development and implementation of quality assurance standards, processes, and controls. Provides leadership and expertise in food safety, quality assurance and related regulations. Develops methods for inspection, testing, sampling, and training. Audits production capabilities and recommends improvements. Audits quality assurance program and ensures quality problems are identified and resolved. Audits systems, analyzes data, evaluates products and technology and establishes quality control procedures. Oversees inspections and audits. Investigates product quality problems and recommends changes or improvements. Maintains proper documentation and reports.

Requirements:

  • Organized, logical thinking capable of understanding the complete SQF System and recognizing interdependent policies/programs to ensure that all parts corroborate with each other and reflect the most up-to-date company procedures
  • Experience in food safety compliance preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Drive

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensure that operations follow sanitary and quality guidelines as required by government and GFSI guidelines
  • Perform daily, weekly, quarterly and yearly duties such as water testing, scheduling equipment maintenance, policy review
  • Stay abreast of activity in the company to ensure all ongoing activity is compliant with food safety standards and advise on how to proceed within compliance moving forward
  • Prepare for annual GFSI food safety audit under SQF standards
  • Prepare for annual organic audit under NOP standards
  • Verify suppliers of raw materials and contract manufacturers for safety and quality
  • Review and test overall SQF system yearly to ensure up-to-date information and that programs in place are effective
  • Suggest changes to policies/procedures that increase efficiency as well as lower the complexity of compliance
  • Work with Food Safety Team to verify records kept for accuracy and compliance
  • Ensure that production area is compliant with food safety standards at all times and suggest improvements, if applicable
  • Create and implement policies to comply with SQF food safety standards
  • Update documents, policies and registers after changes in procedure, equipment, personnel, suppliers, customer requirements, etc.
  • Create necessary policies, procedures and documents for when new products are developed
  • Maintain registers of equipment, product specifications, SQF documents, raw materials, etc.
  • Conduct food safety and quality trainings to ensure staff is aware of food safety and quality responsibilities and good practices
  • Ensure other staff members record activities as needed and are doing their part in compliance with food safety standards
  • Work to constantly improve SQF System with yearly objectives, complaint analyses and corrective actions
  • Monitor supplier performance for quality, food safety and conformance to specification
  • Conduct monthly food safety meetings to discuss improvements needed (if necessary), new policies/programs, review of policies/programs currently in place, analyze recent complaints, etc.
