The position will be with the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) supporting NASA’s Human Systems Engineering Department at JSC, through technical support for provisioning tasks supporting the flight food system for International Space Station.  Tasks include supporting provisioning activities, research and product development related to space flight food systems. Activities include, but are not limited to, oversight of freeze dried food production, assistance with product development, sensory evaluation, literature research, preparation and review of technical reports, presentations, and charts.  Participation in outreach events, tours, and other activities scheduled by the Public Affairs and Education Offices is also required.                                          


  • Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
  • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures.
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company.
  • Responsible for completing all assigned training.
  • Oversight of freeze-dried food production at the Space Food Systems Laboratory, and participation in provisioning activities related to the ISS flight food system, including preparation of facility, food preparation, flight packaging, quality assurance testing, and container stowage.
  • Participating in product development activities, sensory evaluation, literature research, preparation and review of technical reports, presentations, and charts, as assigned. 
  • Participation in outreach events, tours, and other activities scheduled by the Public Affairs and Education Offices, or requested by the NASA customer.
  • Other duties as assigned.



       1. Required: BS degree in Food Science or related discipline from an accredited university, minimum 5 years' previous experience in a commercial food production setting.  Previous demonstrated experience with freeze-dry processing of food products.

       2. DESIRED: Previous experience with sensory evaluation, quality assurance, and product development.

   SKILLS/TRAINING: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  Good oral and excellent written communication skills.  

      2. DESIRED: ServSafe certification, Risk-based HAACP certification
