Job Title: Senior Food Scientist

Education Requirements: BS or Master’s in Meat Science / Food Science or related.

Job Experience: a minimum of 5-7 years of fully cooked food product development of – Meats and Vegetables.

Position Summary:

The Senior Food Scientist is focused on new product development, is responsible for research, planning and overseeing the development of new products. This position is the key link from the company to current and future markets. Above all though, this position must represent the best interests of the company to the marketplace in terms of technology, professionalism and future development.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the customers, plants, and vendors as the R&D project leader to drive execution and direct both product and packaging development across multiple projects.
  • Perform functions to facilitate the development of new products and formulas as requested by corporate sales, customers, and Marketing teams.
  • Researches and incorporates new flavors, ingredients and processes into new product ideas.
  • Creates and edits formulas, processing procedures, finished product specifications, and customer specifications.
  • Develop cost estimates for customers in ERP system and / or Excel.
  • Set up items and routings for new products.
  • Collaborates with operations on process improvement projects.
  • Manage the resources and budgets for projects and platforms.
  • Act as technical/commercialization expert and coach for shared developers.
  • Responsible for commercialization of new and reformulated products and successful transition from development to operations.
  • Participate in food safety programs that ensure the safety of ingredients and finished products.
  • Works within USDA regulations in the development of product labels, nutritional panels, and product rethermalization.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in Food Science or related field
  • 5-7 years' product development experience
  • Data Collection and analysis
  • Understanding of Batter & Breaded products. Frying, cooking, smoking, freezing and high pressure pasteurization
  • Experience with retail packaging equipment processes and materials.
  • Sensory and shelf evaluation methods.
  • Works within USDA regulations in the development of product labels.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
