This position has the responsibility and authority to: support the deployment, maintenance, evaluation, and improvement of systems that regulate and assure the production of safe quality products; deploy, maintain, monitor, evaluate and improve the product quality control activities performed by the QA laboratory and other operational individuals; coordinate work with other QA and food safety support personnel; and supervise the work of QC technicians.

This position shall have the responsibility to report problems with the food safety management system to identified person(s).

This position has the responsibility and authority to initiate and record actions.

This position will maintain and monitor systems that assure compliance with and have the ability to perform analyses to standards as described in Cargill’s GLP Program (equivalent to those as described ISO 17025).

This position will be schedule to work in the Third Shift.

Principal Accountabilities


• 30% - Perform quality control product clearance task. Maintain and monitor the product clearance system, including maintaining a manual of written product clearance procedures. Coordinate and supervise all laboratory quality control systems and product/process verification systems, including sampling procedures, analytical tests and procedures, documentation and reports, needed to assure that all products are produced according to specified quality and food safety requirements.
• 25% - Support quality assurance activities in operational areas, including facility maintenance, sanitation, purchasing/receiving, supply QC, new product/process development, formulation, product specifications, sampling plans, processing, packaging, storage, inventory control, distribution, QC and inspection, customer use and customer claims, by assisting in quality system development, deployment and maintenance.
• 20% - Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of operational quality assurance and control systems, maintaining accurate and pertinent information. Effectively communicate monitoring and evaluation results, including timely reporting of quality assurance and control activities and results to other departments and functions.
• 10% - Recruit and develop qualified personnel. Define skills and performance standards for each of the Technician levels [practical skills, cognitive skills, communication skills]. Develop, maintain and monitor orientation, training and refresher programs for technicians. Develop and monitor individual training plans for each direct report [QC Technician]. Provide guidance and encouragement. Provide clear, actionable performance feedback to direct reports. Champion safety within the plant and QA/QC laboratory.
• 5% - Provide back-up support for Microbiology Lab Supervisor tasks and responsibilities.
• 5% - Maintain and monitor control systems that assure compliance with regulatory requirements (eg. PQC, USDA sampling plans). Perform required reporting and notification activities.
• 5% - Define and refine the quality control metrics used to determine that products meet requirements (e.g. attribute sampling, SPC, equipment capabilities, calibration techniques, lab procedures). Monitor and maintain laboratory PM, calibration and proficiency programs.



Required Qualifications

• B.S. degree, or similar competency, in food science, food microbiology, quality assurance or other applicable field.
• Competency in applied sciences (microbiology, physics, chemistry) and applied mathematics (statistics, algebra).
• Strong organizational and communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications

• Cargill Kitchen Solutions HACCP Plans, PRPs, SOPs, SSOPs, and policies.
• Should have experience in auditing laboratory quality and safety plans.
• Must have flexible hours and be willing to work all shifts, including weekends.
