Job Description

Position Summary

The Product Development Process Improvement Scientist is focused on new product development, is responsible for research, planning and overseeing the development of new products. This position is the key link from the company to current and future markets. Above all this position must represent the best interests of the company to the marketplace in terms of technology, professionalism and future development. The ideal candidate will be plant floor savvy and have experience working with customers, quality control and production departments.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the customers, plants, and vendors as the R&D project leader to drive execution and direct both product and package developers across multiple projects.
  • Perform functions to facilitate the development of new products and formulas as requested by corporate sales, customers, and Marketing teams.
  • Researches and incorporates new flavors, ingredients and processes into new product ideas.
  • Creates and edits formulas, processing procedures, finished product specifications, and customer specifications.
  • Develop cost estimates for customers in ERP system and / or Excel.
  • Set up items and routings for new products.
  • Collaborates with operations to optimize processes and production for existing items within the limits of product specifications.
  • Act as technical/commercialization expert and coach for multiple plants.
  • Responsible for commercialization of new and reformulated products and successful transition from development to operations.
  • Participate in food safety programs that ensure the safety of ingredients and finished products.
  • Works within USDA regulations in the development of product labels.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Meat Science / Food Science or related field a plus.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in product development.
  • Data collection and analysis.
  • Understanding of batter and breading products, understanding of frying, cooking, smoking, freezing and high pressure pasteurization processes.
  • Experience with retail packaging equipment processes and materials.
  • Sensory and shelf evaluation methods.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
  • Excellent Math Skills.
