At the Fremont Company, food technologists research and
develop new food products and/or improve the quality of existing products.
They may also develop or improve the processing, packaging, storage, and
safety of food in line with government and industry standards. The food
technologist will research and develop a variety of food products including
sauerkraut, pickled vegetables, ketchup, and BBQ sauces. This includes the
development of new products from initial bench-top concept to a commercially
producible product, provide technical support to
other departments such as sales and production, and reverse engineering
Position will support our 3 food production facilities
in Ohio and will be based at our facility in Willoughby, Ohio.
should have experience in the following areas product development:
- Assist in the development of
new products from concept to commercialization within cost and
- Improve current products with
regard to both cost and quality
- Keep up-to-date knowledge on
food trends and competitor analysis
- Set-up, Supervise & Support
production trial runs & new product launches at various factory
locations, at times assisting QA and production in troubleshooting
- Communicate with vendors and
suppliers as needed, especially sourcing new ingredients,
specifications, BOM’s, pricing and building relationships
- Set-up & perform internal
& external consumer sensory tests and manage real-time and
accelerated shelf-life studies
- Prepare samples in a Lab.
Decide what ingredients and level are required to create finished
products that meet a customer’s need. Assist in developing specific
processing methods and participate in product scale-up and test runs as
necessary. Document all work in a lab notebook appropriately.
- Organize and order ingredients
needed to prepare customer samples.
- Duplicate formulas and make
changes to existing formulas to meet target flavor profile. Accurately
document formulas, specifications, and operating procedures.
should have the following basic qualifications:
- Preferred 3-5+ years of R&D
experience with Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related field
- Culinary experience is highly
desired, training/courses/certification or degree preferred
- Advanced knowledge of Food
- Project Management Experience
- Knowledge and understanding
allergens/gluten free, GMO, organic and food regulations
- Standardization of developed
formulas for the manufacturing facilities
- Writing and issuing plant
test/start up plans and reports
- Leading or supporting new
product ideas, ingredients, formulas, and processing as well as
optimizing cost and efficiency on existing formulas and processes
- Certification from the
Institute of Food Technologist’s is helpful, but not required.
