The Essential Baking Company has been a respected leader in the artisan baking industry for the past 25 years and we continue to grow. We provide fresh baked artisan breads, European style pastries and desserts daily to retail and food service establishments throughout the greater Seattle area as well as frozen and packaged lines distributed throughout the United States and part of Canada. As our business continues to expand at a rapid rate and we continue to seek out higher levels of food safety and quality performance we are looking for an experienced QA Technician to join our team.


In this role you will report to the Senior Quality Assurance Manager and will be responsible for supporting all routine Quality and Food Safety activities related to our bakery. Typical schedule will be Sunday through Thursday, 10:30 a.m.- 7:00 p.m., but flexible to change based on Department growth.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to the following activities:

  • Perform GMP, sanitation inspections, and plant walk-throughs. Report on findings and work with our team to ensure solutions on areas of improvement and follow up
  • Monitor employees to ensure proper procedures are being met and make corrections as needed using a courteous and respectful approach
  • Maintain detailed documentation related to all food safety and quality matters
  • Perform product and plant testing
  • Review processing paperwork including production batch sheets, and routine quality and food safety documentation
  • Attend shift meetings and use this as a forum to discuss/communicate QA Issues
  • Conduct monthly glass/hard plastics audit and scale verification checks as needed
  • Assist accountable staff in conducting third shift quality and food safety related trainings
  • Review incoming labels and raw materials for adherence to specification
  • Participate in HACCP and Safe Quality Food Teams

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Detail oriented, organized, and comfortable with physical handling, review, and organization of manufacturing related documentation and legal documents
  • Knowledgeable and comfortable in a training environment
  • Quality/Food Safety/Sanitation/Public Health background; knowledge of allergens, GMP, Standard Operating Procedures, and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures specifications preferred
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FDA, WSDA, and also SQF) preferred
  • Familiarity or ability to learn to use Quality analytical metrics such as weights and do simple laboratory analysis of pH, water activity and microbiological testing using swabs and Petri film
  • Solid communication skills, and ability to work in an honest and respectful manner
  • Ability to follow projects through to completion
  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs
  • Ability to be on feet and walk for extended periods of time
  • Self-motivated, needs a minimum of supervision
  • Able to work occasional odd hours (shift changes)
  • HACCP Certification a plus
  • GFSI audit scheme familiarization a plus
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
