Description and Responsibilities

Have the scientific/technical expertise to independently deliver on projects and lead teams. Be an expert at product commercialization and production capabilities

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Hands-on working in the pilot plant (4 days a week), hot extrusion food processing.
  • Travel up to 50% to support the scaling up in commercial plants.
  • Conducts basic research for the improvement of existing products and the development of new products, outlining procedures and specifications.
  • Studies methods to improve quality of food such as flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, convenience, physical, chemical and microbiological composition of foods.
  • Documents all research notes in lab books and computer database.
  • Completes project requests issued by the sales personnel within the time frame required by the customer.
  • Confers with process engineers, flavor experts, sales staff, suppliers, customers and packaging and marketing specialists to resolve problems.
  • Conducts in-house customer presentations and serves as representatives at trade shows.
  • Trains new people, demonstrating lab safety, procedures and techniques.
  • Employs efficient time management techniques performing all the required work in a reasonable time frame.
  • Assists customers with technical issues that may arise.
  • Maintains laboratory, including upkeep of equipment, stocking of supplies and general cleaning of work areas.
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Process Engineering, Gain Science or Milling Science or related discipline. - Gain Science or Milling Science Preferred
  • Mechanically inclined and enjoys assembling Extrusion Equipment and making products.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • 2 years’ experience in food development industry
