We currently market our products in over 45 countries and source a wide range of ginger products from around the Pacific Rim including China, Indonesia, Fiji and Peru. To fill a vacancy in our quality assurance department, we are looking for a Quality Assurance Analyst. Quality Assurance Analyst - Food

Description

Assist in all aspects of Food Safety, Quality, Product Development and Regulatory Programs for The Ginger People. The QA Analyst will work closely with the QA Manager to help with all QA related issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Warehouse:
  • Weekly inspection of newly received products for specifications, defects, damages, label compliance in Gilroy
  • Inspect returned products in Gilroy or Frozen storage warehouses in Watsonville/Salinas when needed
  • Verify information on paperwork matches product received
  • Verify that warehouse workers follow established GMP/Cleaning procedures
  • Notify management and suppliers of quality related issues (incorrect labels, dirty/damaged product/packaging)
  • Monthly collection and transport of frozen samples to 3rd party frozen warehouse
  • Pre-shipment Samples and Laboratory Testing:
  • Log pre-shipment samples into database and label with sample ID
  • Prepare samples and paperwork for cutting and evaluation, 3rd party testing
  • Enter into database and file test results as they are received from labs
  • Notify management when results are non-compliant
  • Report non-conformities to suppliers
  • Maintain, organize sample retain area. Includes monthly removal of expired product
  • Prepare reports:
  • Of deficiencies and/or product release
  • Creating SOPs for newly established procedures
  • Certificate of Analysis for each product and lot, as they are received from the suppliers/lab
  • for Supplier monthly meeting (Weekly participation) as well as meeting notes afterwards
  • Document Requests:
  • Respond to and handle documentation requests (statements, questionnaires) from customers and sales team
  • File current and request updated documents from suppliers and copackers
  • Maintain and keep up-to-date internal QA folder
  • Customer Complaints:
  • Obtain and test retain samples when needed for complaint evaluation
  • Coordinate with customer service to handle complaints and provide necessary information
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding non-conforming products
  • Effectively communicate and maintain strong working relationships with all RPF manufacturing partners when needed.
  • Technical support for product development including development of recipes, determination of benefits and assessment of ginger ingredients.
  • Research the benefits of ginger and turmeric for consumer education, branded product promotion and assessment of ginger ingredients.

Qualification Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Tertiary degree in food science.
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience in the food industry
  • Experience in working with suppliers and co-packers
  • Prior QA experience/internship with food companies a plus.

Other Skills, Abilities, Knowledge Required

  • Organizational skills, including time management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Valid Driver’s License (This position consists of up to 10% traveling)
  • Proficient computer skills (Excel, Word) a plus
  • Proficient in documentation and workflow a plus

The pay for this position is commensurate with experience. This role includes a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and paid time off.
