has an opportunity for a Microbiological Environmental Monitoring (EM)
Intern for the Summer of 2019. The shift for this position is 8:00
AM-4:30 PM Monday-Friday.
Goal: To learn and develop skills
associated with aspects of microbiological food safety programs to assure
product safety and quality.
Food Safety Training: Review recent scientific
literature associated with foodborne illness and control of pathogens.
Summarize pertinent findings associated with powdered nutritional
products and production facilities.
Prepare slide presentations that
will be incorporated into plant employee training activities. Slides
generated will be used to supplement training for:
and will include assessment
information to confirm employee understanding.
Environmental monitoring: Learn appropriate aseptic
sampling techniques to support the environmental monitoring program.
Report results in a format that can easily be understood and used to
support directed control and continuous improvement.
Learn aseptic technique to
sample different aspects of the environment for Cronobacter
Assist with investigative swab
sampling to determine contamination harborage points and help to
establish better control programs
Enter environmental data into
excel database, summarize and trend data.
Use analyzed data to develop
presentations that will be used to increase facility awareness and
drive control improvement
control meetings and document meeting minutes. Enter associated control
corrective actions into the Intelex corrective action management
Risk Analysis: Learn risk management skills to
assess building maintenance and improvement activities.
Learn risk analysis skills to
support assessment of building maintenance/improvement activities and
contractor activity while maintaining environmental control of the

The intern will be expected to

Currently enrolled at an
accredited college and pursuing Bachelor's Degree
in a Science Field or related discipline. Microbiology preferred.
Must have had a course in
